Overview:
Pilotwings Resort is a flight simulator game and is the first game in the series (created by Nintendo in 1990) in 15 years.
This time, the game is set in Wuhu Island (already seen in Wii Fit and Wii Sports Resort) and is divided into more than 40 flight missions (distributed in 5 dificulty classes), each with an associated air vehicle. There are 3 differents air vehicles: plane, hang glider and rocket belt.
Besides the main Mission Mode, there is also a free flight mode to explore Wuhu Island to find hundreds of collectible extras and take pictures for Nintendo 3DS photo album
Review:
raffa1985's review
Pilotwings Resort follows the same basic formula of its predecessors. You fly around an environment, completing various tasks like passing through circles in the sky, shooting floating targets and other stuff. Finally, you should land safely somewhere. At the end of each challenge, you are evaluated for your performance (time, landing precision, fuel consumption), and this generates a score.
The formula still works and it's fun, but unfortunately Pilotwings Resort gets old fast.
The game takes place entirely on Wuhu Island (the same one from Wii Fit and Wii Sports Resort), and despite some interesting and fun missions such as escort ufo's to a mothership and do a squirrel suit jump, it starts to become boring after flying over and over the same environment. A few more levels would be welcomed.
Other aspect that really bothers me is the simplistic Wii Sports Resorts like mechanics. There's no physics, no wind and no climatic variations. The Pilotwings series never were complex games, but Pilotwings 64 had all those aspects, and they made it more exciting. It's a pity that the vehicle selection is so limited too, where's the sky diving? Human Canoonball?.
After a 15 years absence, i expected so much more than ''A wii sports kind of ''package that we got. It's worth a play, but Nintendo seems to not have invested much time and patience here. Wasted potential. My Score: 7.0
