Overview:
Taking place after the events of Ghost Recon 2, players will once again take on the role of Captain Scott Mitchell as he commands the fictitious "Ghosts" in an attempt to protect the President, recover stolen nuclear codes and battle insurgents.
The story unfolds entirely in an incredibly realistic and detailed modelling of Mexico City, one of the world's largest cities. It is this size that allows GR:AW to provide multiple locations like in previous Ghost Recon games, ranging from heavily industrialized areas to local parks & landmarks to office districts.
As in previous Ghost Recon games, players will command their team of Ghosts while neutralizing hostiles and completing various mission objectives. These objectives can range from escorting friendly units across the map to rescuing hostages or taking out enemy artillery.
Being a tactical shooter, similiar to games like America's Army, Advanced Warfighter places emphasis on using cover effectively in order to stay alive, together with sound strategic co-ordination to successfully complete mission objectives. Advanced Warfighter will allow new strategic situations to be planned and performed using original features. One such feature is the Integrated Warfighter System. This system is based upon the Future Force Warrior program being tested and developed by the United States military.
Review:
There really isn't a whole lot I could add to a review that the Overview didn't already mention, but I'll point out a few things I've liked with this game.
The wealth of information the HUD, your teammates and also that of the tactical map is always plentiful and never puts into question what your supposed to be doing. Access to that info is by audio clues and a very slick control setup and interface that really shows what the latest gaming systems can be capable of. That control interface also works excellent for leading your teammates, switching weapons, taking cover and performing other tasks.
"GRAW" as this game is also known as, has top notch graphics and sound which make it one of the most realistic games offered for any system, with a story that is believable and interesting. Target acquisition, smoke effects, explosions, weapon fire etc are all well done and the game makes full use of 5.1 Dolby Digital.
Missions are well thought out, level design is ingenious and requires well planned tactical strategy. Depending on how you play it a mission can last between 15-45 minutes at a time. Although the AI is very smart and responds well to any given situation, you can also opt for co-op mode and multi-player to liven things up which gives this game much more of a replay-ability factor and more "bang for the buck".
Overall score for this game is 90%. In my opinion one of the best tactical shooters available and contrary to popular belief easy to learn and have fun with for just about anyone wanting a good game to play.
