Submission Review Tips
In an effort to improve the quality of the database, we've been taking steps to improve conformity of similar entries, and so here's a few things to remember that applies to all staff when entering your own titles or approving others:
Games/Hardware that come in Limited, Limited Edition, Limited Collector's Edition, Collector's Edition, etc.
The title of the game obviously goes into the "title" field, but the "Limited Edition" or whatever the case may be goes into the "variation field". Not all of the entries in our database are entered as variations, but all the titles should still maintain a level of uniformity regardless. Exceptions to this are entries that only came as a Collector's Edition such as the "Eidos Collector's Edition" or the "Doom Collector's Edition" which are commemorative titles and not variations of any type or have "regular" versions.
Demos
Mirroring what's written above, demos should have their proper name in the "title" field and the word "Demo" placed in the variation field. Also when adding/reviewing demos, make sure the genre is listed as "Demo" and the demo's actual gameplay genre placed as the subgenre instead.
Using "The" in a title
This one has been abused and debated before, but here's the proper way to use it:
When "the" is part of a main title, place it after the title such as Legend of Zelda, The
When "the" is part of a title and the title has a subtitle, place it after the title and before the colon such as Legend of Zelda, The: Ocarina of Time
When "the" is part of a title which has one of the "Collector's Edition" exceptions, place it after i.e. Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition, The.
Also don't forget the commas as well where applicable.
Titles with numbers
Please take special note of titles with numbers in them. Some use "III", some use "3". Always check when reviewing a title and never assume a sequel follows the same structure.
When a title uses roman numerals (III), it'll help during searches if you add the title using (3) as an alternate title. That way it'll show no matter how you type it during a search.
