I'm midway through the 2nd season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I'm just about  to dive into...

...SPOILER ALERT...

The episode where Q introduces the starship Enterprise-- and the Trekkie Nation-- to the Borg. Ah, to go back to those heady days when the Borg were the most ruthless, terrifying, and nigh-unstoppable foes of the Alpha-Quadrant and Beta-Quadrant powers... before the Ferengi-like profit-seekers at Paramount gave them same fate that they do to all breakout pop-culture phenoms: overexpose them and run them right into the ground until they became a joke and everybody got sick and tired of them. And boy, did Star Trek: Voyager do that to the hilt.

It ain't right... it just ain't right.

You know what, I gotta get away from these depressing thoughts, and mellow out a bit. And I have just the thing:

Duuuude... I'm totes trippin' spheres...

I'm through Inhumans now, as well as season 2 of Jessica Jones and Doctor Strange. Started on season 2 of Luke Cage.

EDIT: Also watched Spider-Man: Homecoming last night, and finished season 2 of Luke Cage.

Didn't take me long to watch through the short web series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot which was solid, I hadn't seen it before.

I've decided to pause my Star Trek TNG marathon for a bit, and honor the recently departed Charles Robinson by mainlining a slew of Night Court episodes from season two onward directly into my eyeballs.

I sure hope Richard Moll will occupy the mortal plane for a little while longer, or I'll be completely inconsolable.

EDIT: I've been lazy and haven't posted about the movies I've seen for nearly a year (I think).

Goldfinger - (1964) - B-
--> I find it interesting to re-watch these old Bond movies and discover how "unrealistic" they are. Some of the later Roger Moore movies are arguably the worst offenders.

Cars 3 - (2017) - B
--> Not the best Pixar movies but a powerful message at the end.

Hercules - (1997) - B
--> Interesting and unique art style.

The Emperor's New Groove - (2000) - B
--> Similar to Hercules.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - (2017) - A-
--> Powerful performance by Frances McDormand.

The Last Samurai - (2003) - B+
--> A bit cliché but a favourite of mine.

Phantom Thread - (2017) - B
--> Strong performances but I did not quite connect with the movie.

Bumblebee - (2018) - B-
--> Average and quite predictable.

Anomalisa - (2015) - A+
--> Terrific movie. Wes Anderson vibes in the best possible way.

Kate & Leopold - (2001) - C
--> Forgettable romcom.

The Godfather, Part I, II, III - (1972, 1974, 1990) - A+, A+, B+
--> Classics. There is a lot of hate for Part III but it is a fine movie, albeit with a predictable ending.

The Holiday - (2006) -  B+
--> Unlike Kate & Leopold, this is an example of a romcom which is well done and contains a lot of good jokes.

Knives Out - (2019) - A
--> Excellent whodunit and a breath of fresh air.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - (2019) - A
--> Tarantino is one of the few filmmakers still bringing original stories and characters to life (excluding Indie films).

Eye In The Sky - (2015) - A-
--> Incredible suspensful film!

Malificent - (2014) - B-
--> Bit of a mixed bag.

Far From The Madding Crowd - (2015) - C
--> Carey Mulligan annoys me a little more each time I see a movie of her with her affected cocktease attitude. I wonder how she will age...

Avengers: Endgame - (2019) - A
--> As far as superhero movies go, and the Marvel movies in paticular, this one (together with Infinity War) is one of the best. True stakes & engaging characters without a social agenda forced in the movie.

Crimson Tide - (1995) - A-
--> All in all a good ifnot slightly predictable action/thriller movie, similar to The Rock and other 90ies movies. That said the soundtrack lifts this movie at least one star higher!

Iron Man 3 - (2013) - C-
--> Forgetful and generic - quite a contrast to the Avengers movies. Forgetful story, characters and overdrawn fight scenes and fairly poor CGI.

Solo: A Star Wars Story - (2018) - B+
--> This movie gets a lot of hate, but I have vastly preferred the standalone Disney-era Star Wars movies to the new trilogy. Unfortunately this movie has the feminist robot ideology shoved in, but otherwise nothing to complain about. Rogue One is still a better and more impactful movie, in my opinion.

Jack Reacher - (2012) - A-
--> While I understand the criticism of many that Tom Cruise shouldn't have been cast as Jack Reacher (because Reacher supposedly is a Mountain-esque figure) I cannot but admire this movie. Especially the early and middle scenes containing the crime scene analysis are executed with much conviction.

Steve Jobs - (2015) - B
--> A bit chaotic (shaking camera) and tiresome (no room for silence) but by all accounts appears quite close to character.

American Sniper - (2014) - B+
--> Much better than the average movie in the genre.

3:10 to Yuma - (2007) - B
--> Not incredible but solid Western.

Rocketman - (2019) - B
--> Interesting movie about Elton John. Turns out he's a bit of an asshole.

Sleepers - (1996) - C+
--> Old school style of movie, but felt about 30 minutes too long.

Basic Instinct - (1992) - B-
--> One of the strongest initial 30 minutes (or so) of any movie I can think of, but the movie isn't able to maintain this intensity.

Cradle 2 the Grave - (2003) - C
--> Cheesy but some decent scenes.

Logan - (2017) - A-
--> Different take on the superhero trope.

Hot Shots! - (1991) - B+
--> Great gags and overall fun movie! Feels dated only in the sense that this kind of movie wouldn't be made anymore today.

Mad Max: Fury Road - (2015) - A
--> Visually highly impressive, engaging characters and not a bad story made me enjoy this a lot.

Creed - (2015) - A-
--> Great movie and excellent soundtrack.

Hot Shots! Part Deux - (1993) - B
--> A bit of a repeat of the first movie, thematically, trading Top Gun for Rambo.

Zodiac - (2007) - B+
--> Solid movie, also interesting to see Downey and Ruffalo together before Marvel.

Hidden Figures - (2016) - B
--> Enjoyable feelgood semi-historic biopic.

20th Century Women - (2016) - B
--> Quite interesting dark comedy life movie with a good soundtrack.

Ant-Man - (2015) - B
--> A character on the fringes of the MCU - some good scenes but overall not one of the best.

About Schmidt - (2002) - A
--> Poignant movie about a recently retired man who realizes he nears the end of his life.
