Repros and home brews

Hey guys just wanting to get everyone's thoughts on repros and home brew game. I know the home brews are usually all new games on the old systems such as Halo 2600 on the atari. But then we have the repros that are usually games that were never finished and/or released and now fans are getting the licensing to finish and release. Then there are some that were just not released in America so fans are redoing them in English and releasing them. Just curious as to what your general thoughts are about the games and what is your opinion on having them in your collection?

I don't consider games that were never finished/released to be repros. What are you reproducing - something that was never produced in the first place?
I personally find homebrews interesting, in that they're new software. Repros/romhacks are fun for playing something in your native language or even on the console it was intended for, but most honestly don't have a place in my collection if they're just a fanpatch for language. At that point, I should play the original instead and learn the language.

Or buy a Retron 5, the original cart, and the .ips patch you can run on the fly to translate it for you and make it easier on yourself

Homebrew - I love it. New games for classic systems are great.
Unreleased - love it. Games I never got a chance to play, but should have.
Bootlegs - Not a fan. At that point just get a flash cart.

Any
high quality
new game for an old system is a good thing! Whether they are home brew, reproduction or conversion from another system. I emphasized high quality because not all new releases are gold.

Would it be possible to put Maniac Mansion Day of the Tentacle on a console based format?

Possible? Of course. Probable? No. The license alone would be expensive, if not impossible to obtain.

From wiki:
"At PlayStation Experience 2014, Schafer announced that a remastered version of Day of the Tentacle, simply titled Day of the Tentacle Remastered, was being developed by his studio, Double Fine Productions. The remaster was released on March 22, 2016 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows and OS X,[43][44][45] with a Linux version to be released at a later date."

True that it is coming to PS4 and Vita, but those are neither homebrew nor repro.

Yeah, haha. That's totally true. I was just pointing that out, so everyone would know if they didn't already.
