Another difference between the NES and arcade version are the base levels. In the AV, the level is timed and after you blow up the "thing on the wall", you have to run forward and run left or right at the end to proceed to the next corridor. It makes it a little bit harder.

Also, while playing last night I realized that the AV of the game overall is harder for one reason. You're too big. Simply put, you're more likely to get hit by a bullet. On the NES, you're much smaller.

Speaking of Contra:

Oh crap, Super C is the copy I can find.  I guess I won't be posting my score for Contra.

I know Contra is a tough as nails game, but are the base stages especially hard? That's where I die the most because I have to juggle enemy fire and those rolling things.

Are you pushing down on the d-pad and lying down? You can dodge fire and shoot the rolling bombs from that position. Just lie down below your target and raise up for a second to get a few shots off before returning to the ground.

I'm doing that, and it's helping, but I'm still dying a lot on the bases because, for some reason, my Wiimote D-pad is a little fiddly.  Sometimes when I intend to hold down, I'm pushing to the right a little, and end up standing up right in the thick of the gunfire.  I'll just have to be more careful I guess.

I'm going to keep hammering away this evening until I can break 100K, then I'll post something Cheesy

Thanks! I can't seem to crack the stupid Stage 4 boss, though. And that 2nd base level is BRUTAL!

Yeah, I agree.  Despite being relatively inexperienced at Contra, I can usually get through the end of Stage 3 without losing a life, but Stage 4 gets me every time.

A little Contra for breakfast.

A little tip to rack up points: at the top of the waterfall, before you fight the alien, you can pick off all the enemies as they spawn.

We're not doing that, right? Cuz there's a few places in this game where you can just stand there and shoot and rack up points.
