Nice little bit of hidden history.

I've noticed you took a lot of points from the Dreamcast and Saturn online setups.

One thing that bugs me anymore is that the Dreamcast online scene is almost like an exclusive club.  The BBA is fairly expensive, and is the only way to connect for end users anymore.  I remember taking my DC online through dialup as recently as 2007, but that's not even possible for most people anymore.  Most people don't have land lines anymore or dialup ISPs.  Tone generators and line simulators are somewhat complicated and cost as much as the BBA.

Online features in retro consoles (pre-2000) are cool, but with the limited functionality, they seem like a novelty.  One-handed surfing on the Wii will probably get lumped in with this bunch in a few years.

Pretty wild that consoles were even doing online in 1997, let alone as haphazardly as it appears was going on.  I didn't even know or realize that the Saturn NetLink would do web browsing, I just thought it was for head-to-head play and such, or dialing into a SEGA network specifically for gaming.  I find it fascinating that such technology was forging ahead at that time, and how, starting with the Dreamcast, the following generation is where online really took off (primarily with the Xbox).
