Okay, I beat RayCrisis, and reached the dis-human boss using few enough continues that I unlocked the Infinity boss (the supposed actual final boss), and beat it, though it's darn near impossible to do so without expending a few continues. I managed this run with just 9 total "plays" using WR-02. Here are a couple screenshots to show that I got the "good" ending, followed by my score:

Best run I could get in under the cutoff.

Rich asked me to update the scores and the overall standings and everything is now up to date. I'd like for him to review it just in case I miscalculated someone's score.
With all that said, we've got a tie for first between MetalFRO and RetroRage. This is going to be interesting.

UPDATE: Scores are now posted for Otomedius Excellent and Raycrisis.
There is no tie,
MetalFRO
currently holds the top spot on the leaderboard after the final numbers were tallied. As was stated at the beginning of the competition, your lowest score in each category (retro & modern) are dropped and the remaining scores are added together to get your final score. This means that the highest score that a participant can get in this competition is a
60
. Please double-check your scores to make sure my math is correct.
Congrats to
ae.tc
for the high score on Otomedius Excellent and
MetalFRO
for his high score on Raycrisis! MetalFRO currently holds the top spot, but only time will tell as to whether he can hold on.
Today marks the beginning of the 3 day Royale Rumble in which you can improve your scores in any games you have already played this month. I will try to keep a handle on updating scores and standings for the next few days to ensure the competition is tight. Good luck to all!

Well then if that's the case then FRO's score should be 40.

How so? He got 30 points on the retro side for scoring 10's in Gradius, Lightening Force & Raycrisis (he did not play U.N. Squadron, so the 0 was his dropped score). On the modern side, he got 28 points: 10 for R-Type Final, 10 for Xyanide, and 8 for Sin & Punishment (did not play OE, so his 0 was dropped there).
30 + 28 = 58

How is that fair? Scores should be dropped from games that were participated in. If I knew that's how the game would be played I wouldn't have bought some of the pricier games just to compete.

This scoring system was written down in the rules in the initial post before the competition:
At the end of the month, each participant's lowest score on the retro and modern side will be dropped (this means you can miss one game on each side and still be in the championship running). The participant with the most overall points for his/her six games will be crowned Top Shmuper.
Whether YOU think it's fair or not is a moot point. The competition was set up this way so that participants would not have to spend money on all 8 games if they choose (because we knew that the cost would add up) and because we were playing across 8 different systems, which not everyone owns. Everyone who has already played a title, also has the opportunity to improve their score and standing over the next 3 days, so you can post scores for these games and bump your points up and his down.
With this said, the purpose of the playthroughs is for all of us to get together as a community and enjoy games and fellowship. If people are going to start complaining about things like rules that we set up prior to the competition, then we'll just stop doing things like this.
Also, if anyone has a problem with how something is being scored or how a competition is being run, then I suggest you send a PM. Thanks.

Bah. Whatever. FRO deserves to win anyway. He got the high score in damn near every game he played.

Yes he did, but I'd still like to see a few people try to go at it.
I'll be hooking up the Retron5 soon and starting Kid Icarus.

Well, well. I guess no one was willing to take advantage of the Royale Rumble over the last few days of the month. Oh well, who can blame them after the stellar performance that
MetalFRO
put together over the last month. Congrats good sir on taking home the title of
2014 RFGen Top Shmuper
(which will soon be added above your avatar) and a certain blinged out belt will be coming your way for display in your game room, living room mantle, bathroom, or headboard. Thanks to all who participated this month. Hope you had a BLAST!
