Ugh...MetalFRO. You're really gunna try and make me beat stage 5, huh?
LOL, I'm focusing on R-Type Final today, since I haven't got a high enough score to feel comfortable leaving it where I'm at now, so by all means, give it a shot
Oh, and I pronounce it GRA-dee-us as well.

Since I'm having exceeding difficulty getting very far in R-Type Final, I've decided it best that I pause every so often & take a picture to capture my score, given this game's lack of a functional leaderboard. This was tKen right before I died from the large mech that appears just after this. Sigh.

I did this run using the TX-T AH craft. Also, just to be clear, I'm not using any continues here. I start playing, and once I run out of lives, I start over again.

The score resets to zero when you continue anyway.

Alright, I finally figured out the path to get to your R-Type Final high score.................
1. Save your file after you are done with your run.
2. On main menu click on "Data & Gallery"
3. On next screen click on "War Chronicles"
Your highest score will be listed as the Total High Score.

I know, but I want to make sure it's apparent that I'm not milking a later stage for points by skipping an earlier one and advancing into higher point value areas.
Here's a screenshot I took at the Stage 3 boss, about 10 seconds before I made a bone headed mistake and died:

EDIT: I did this run using the R-9WB AH "Happy Days" ship, on "Human" difficulty level.

Right on. Thanks for clarifying.

Anyone else hit the alternate 2nd level on R-Type Final? I had repeatedly been taken to the flora and fauna esque Level 2, but this last run, I went to a completely underwater area. Pretty cool.

Yeah, I think it may depend on which ship you select. I've seen a couple variations on Stage 2.

I've never seen the completely under water version. Ive seen the partial one, the jungle one, and the desert.

It looks really good, I agree. The slow downs are killer though, especially in level 3.

Yes, that is one aspect of the game that always puzzled me. The PS2 is capable of some pretty fast, manic action. Why on earth didn't Irem and Fresh Games optimize the code better?
