Rod Cousens, to CEO of Codemasters has said, and I quote: "I think this cycle has got a long way to go and it's certainly not over. Anyone writing off Sony and Microsoft do so at their peril. I could give you an argument that says there's going to be a 'Wii 2′ pretty quickly because [Nintendo would need one] in order to sustain momentum over a 10-year period. And what type of software would it have then? Because right now it isn't driven by technological supremacy or power. I wonder if the idea of opening up a whole new audience to 60-year-olds looking to make sure their brain cells don't die off is a sustainable form of entertainment. Maybe they got it right because we are all an aging population in Western markets, but I somehow think as a form of entertainment that won't be the case." My reply? Why the heck are you in the gaming business? Are you that stupid? Let's talk some games, shall we? First off there is Super Mario Galaxy, which is regarded as one of the best games of all time. Second, we have the up coming release of Super Smash Bros Brawl, which is going to sell like hot cakes. Also, ton's of great 3rd party games coming up. Would you like me to name some Mr Cousens? Sure.: Endless Ocean No More Heroes Okami Dragon Quest Swords So maybe if you could out from under your rock and see whats going on, your quotes would not make me sick. We are all on page 5 Mr Cousens, open the book please. Source: http://www.gamedaily.com/...visions-wii-2/19021/?biz=

The Codemasters CEO is just made because his company has a mediocre track record. I try not to sound fanboyish but its hard not to when overall I still can't see myself buying the other modern gen consoles (they are out, its not next gen anymore) its hard not to. Theres room for the Wii and a standard meat and potatoes console on the market. Its short sighted people like him that will run their company into the ground.
At least from my stand point I don't think the wii is a fad. my collection more than states that, especially since i play the hell out of the thing.
(is wondering how coherent this all was)

Codemasters? What have they done in recent history? Crap? I think so. Your games must be fads, Mr. CEO. Think what you want, but it will not change the fact that your company is the pinnacle of mediocrity. Here's to you and your company's impending bankruptcy.
|
I don't believe he is the first to say the Wii is a fad. At least he has company in the area of being stupid.
|
I think the Wii will fade over the next few years. I am not saying they don't have some good games and have some good ones coming but I think it will fade. Third party support will start to fade. I don't know anymore but I thought I saw at one point in time 3rd party games weren't selling very well on the Wii.
I thought about playing Zelda but waving the Wiimote around all the time didn't sound fun.
I have a Wii and I never play it. That reminds me I need to respond to a PM about selling it.

Aww you all stole my Codemasters bashing.
Can anyone name the most recent game they have made? I most certaintly cannot.
|
Colin McRae: DiRT, one of the best racers on the 360/PS3/PC I might add.

@c1341:
Let me have my cake. The cake is not a lie.
Also, there were these same types of naysayers about the DS, if I remember correctly. Strange... I hear that the DS prints money.

1st Sega, and now Codemasters. The thing I think is really stupid is its game makers saying there are only mini games and it's just a fad..... so why don't they make a proper game for it themselves? Seriously, if they don't like what is one it, do something about it. Also for the record, I think Nintendo did a smart thing using less powered hardware, their system is more sleek, cheaper, and not that much worse off visually. 3D has already gotten to the point where I look at it and say.... okay... look real already. until a 3D person looks as real as a digital real person in a game, it's all the same to me now. I'm not the 1st person to back Nintendo, but yeah.

The thing about Wii is that they really shut themselves out from the hit 3rd party games that the 360 and PS3 will have.
Will the Wii have Call of Duty 4? No Resident Evil 5? No Devil May Cry 4? No Street Fighter 4? No Orange Box? No Skate? No Soul Calibur 4? No GTA 4? No
Heck, just look at all the developers who've said that the Wii cannot handle their games!
Free Radical http://kotaku.com/gaming/nintendo/free-radical-wii-cant-handle-our-game-190723.php
Bethesda http://gameroobie.net/?type=nyhet&id=4981
Epic Games http://www.wired.com/gaming/gamingreviews/news/2007/02/72616
The Wii is obviously not a system that will have the current hit games on the 360/PS3 and will make developers make games just for that system. Knowing most developers, they'd want to reach the widest audience possible, and get their product on as many consoles as possible, thus they'd make it for just the PS3/360 and leave crappy shovelware for Wii.
It's happening now and will be even more prevalent in a few years. Mark my words.

I couldn't begin to count how many people I know with Wii's that only get one game every few months, that's it. And how many only have Wii sports and that's about it because that's all they figure the system is good for.
When EA is responsible for 20% of your game library, you've got a long road ahead of you in the eyes of more serious gamers.

They are pretty talented. To bad they are being narrow minded.
Shame to see stuff like this.
Little more effort could go a long way.

Street fighter 4 isn't a no for Wii yet.(No confirmation)
Free Radical hasn't written the Wii off neither. Just Haze, duh!!!
|
Haha, Factor5 is developing something for the Wii. Oh how they jump back on the Nintendo Ship. I think it is hilarious.
