Today I'm talking about my first experience with the Suikoden series, a JRPG by Konami that features over 100 playable characters. This is a PS1 JRPG that was never on my radar growing up with the system. I'm glad I gave it a shot and am looking forward to playing the sequel in the near future.
Nice to see my favorite franchise get some love. As much as I enjoyed this first entry, compared to its' contemporaries I wouldn't claim it's more than just a "good" one. The worldbuilding is neat tho and many of the characters introduced here are referenced or make returns in later titles. The soundtrack and overall plot are also excellent, but the graphics and techinical aspects are kinda rough. Most of the flaws and shortcomings were ironed out in time for the sequel, which works on its' own but is best experienced right after this one. 3rd one is a mixed bag due the transition from gorgeous 2D sprites to lackluster 3D, along with the original creator leaving. Every title after has been sorta hit-or-miss, reusing old locations, characters and ideas while not daring to progress the story any further. Just heard a rumor the other day of Sony buying out a bunch of Konami IPs and guess where my mind went right away.
