Treasure Hunt Chronicles: Treasure Hunt Chronicles '09 - #21

After several weeks of mediocre finds, I finally have some really good stuff to report on. I didn't get a lot of sales, two all weekend to be exact, but one was great and the other was absolutely amazing. I even managed to find one of my personal "Holy Grails" although, I have to admit, I kind of had forgotten I really even wanted one since I've been looking so long for it and haven't seen it at a good price in the years I've been collecting.

This find has a rather strange tale to it, as I almost didn't even buy it because I never even saw it! I walked around and through the garage two or three times like I normally do, but I didn't see anything worth buying, so I said "Thanks" and started walking away with my dad down the driveway. About half way down, he says "You weren't interested in the Sega games?" At first I thought he was lying like he does a lot about stuff like that, but he convinced me he was serious, so we went back to the sale and he pointed out a box of tangled cords under the table. I spot an Atari 2600 Jr. and PS1 and a few games floating around in the box and then notice another box beside it with a Genesis and a few games. I asked how much they were and a woman there called another person to get a price. The person on the phone said $10. I thought about haggling but she hung up the phone and I figured she'd have to call him back to get approval on a lower price, so I just gave her the $10.
All this stuff was really dirty, the PS1 was more brown than grey, and had that terrible rotten/stale cigarette smoke smell. So I laid it all in the back of my truck and basically soaked everything I could in rubbing alcohol and left the smell vaporize out in the sun for a few hours. No more smell and it was clean enough to bring in the house.
I'm going to be selling probably 90% of the stuff in this lot (I'm keeping a couple of the PS1 games, but pretty much everything else is extra for me). You all know what I paid, so I'm selling cheap. Either PM me or send an email if you want anything.

Now, this is the lot I was so excited about. This is the kind of lot that collectors dream about the night before garage sales. The first three Nintendo generations in one place with a sampling of excellent games for each. The games are all pretty good ones, especially the NES and N64 games for me, two of the NES games are an R5 and an R6 according to the DP guide (both of which I needed) and I needed several of the N64 games. I was particularly excited about Nuclear Strike 64 since that was a game I sold to GameStop before I was into collecting and have regretted it ever since. There was also a PC Stick in this lot that was MIA for the picture, a Gravis BlackHawk, nothing rare/expensive though.
The Top Loader NES was one of my personal Grails when I first started collecting, but I kind of quit looking for it once I figured out how to get a toaster NES to work perfectly every time. Now, what did I pay for this spectacular little lot, you ask? I don't think I'm going to say. . . Nah, I'll tell you, that would be mean to not say what it cost me, plus it would screw up my stats at the end.
The box of stuff wasn't priced and was hard to look through so I wasn't sure what all was in there when I bought it. So I ask a woman there how much the old Nintendo stuff in the box was. She says "make an offer, I just want it gone". I could tell from her voice that she was serious and just wanted it gone, and I could have had it for $1 if that's what I offered. But I figured that I had just paid $10 on a somewhat similar lot a few houses earlier, so I offered her $10 for her box of stuff as well. Of course, she accepted the offer, I gave her a ten and walked away with a huge smile on my face.
Incidentally, most of this stuff is for sale as well. I'm keeping the Top Loader, most of the N64 games, the two non-SMB2 NES games and some of the manuals, but pretty much everything else is up for grabs.

I know this is going to be another land slide as far as votes go, but maybe the non-Nintendo fans will think otherwise, what do YOU think was the best one of the week?

Last week's favorite deal was the "New" NES Advantage with 90% of the votes.

As of this posting, I have 2,288 total games, 1,887 unique games, and 401 duplicates. Which means I have 32 more total games, 14 more unique games, and 18 more duplicates since the last Treasure Hunt Chronicles installment.

So far, I've spent $693.46 this year ($20.00 this week) on gaming related stuff, and I spent $0.00 this week to ship stuff for trades and I brought in $0.00 from selling stuff, so I am down $229.17 this year. The total spent (amount spent on games plus amount spent on shipping for trades) this year, is $776.11

To sum up this year's stats, I have 366 more total games, 409 more unique games, and 43 less duplicates. And I have a "loss" of $229.17 for the year.

lol, when you said holy grail I thought you found something reeeeealy good. I agree with you about "almost missing stuff." If you know the seller at the yard sale / swap meet has good prices, it's worth looking extra carefully for stuff.

Nice haul on both lots. My vote goes to the Nintendo lot though. The NES mini is hard to come by. I remember I bought mine new at Toy's R Us for 20.00 many years ago. To this day I don't remember what happened to the box for it.

$10 for a toploader alone is a pretty good deal.

Not as good as the free one I got...

But good finds again this week!

$10 for a top loader alone wins the best of. The stick, 2600, and master system are all great finds even at $10 each but a top loader for $10? There is no comparison.
