Last week wasn't great, but this week was just terrible. The worst part is that I have no idea why it was so bad. There were a ton of garage sales open this weekend and the weather could not have been better, but I found virtually nothing the entire weekend. Usually I can attribute a bad weekend with bad weather or a holiday or just not being able to go saling. But none of that was the case for the garage sales on Friday or Saturday. This week was so bad that I had serious doubts of whether or not I wanted to do a blog entry. As you can see, I decided to go ahead and do one anyway, but with a slight twist.
This was my entire haul from garage saling on Friday. A somewhat CIB Burnout Dominator for $1. I say 'somewhat' because the case has a generic insert from Blockbuster instead of the original. The disc looks good though and doesn't have one of those stickers rental places usually put on discs, so I felt I could deal with not having the original artwork. Does anyone know if that's the original manual? It looks (and feels) legit, but it's black and white instead of color like any other PS2 manual I can think of.
And this was my entire haul from garage sales on Saturday. It was originally marked $3 but that was crossed out and replaced with $1, so I offered $0.50, which was accepted. Also at this sale we got a nice load of drywall pieces. The guy bought a stack of them because they had "forklift damage" from the store, used what he needed and had the rest marked $5 for all of it. We ended up getting it all for free. There was even one sheet that was nearly full, most just had the corners busted off or were left overs from cuts. We're going to be putting it in a tiny bathroom so we don't have room for full sheets anyway, so they'll work perfectly for us.
This was the only thing I got on Sunday, and it wasn't even from the flea market. When I woke up on Sunday morning, it was raining, so we weren't planning on going to the flea market, but the rain stopped by 8 AM and the sun came out, so we went ahead and went. The flea market was nearly deserted with the last 3 rows which usually have probably 50 vendors in each one, having maybe 20 combined. These all came from a garage sale on the way home. The sale had tons of 1970's and 80's collectibles, everything from comic books to Star Wars to Transformers. I picked up the stack of PS magazines for $2, I tried going lower but she wouldn't budge on the price. Then as I was leaving I noticed the strategy guides mixed in with a stack card playing game books/magazines. I picked out the four strategy guides and offered her 'half a buck' for them. When she agreed, I gave her two quarters, said thanks and started leaving. The she said "that's not a dollar" and I look at her puzzled. And she says "what did you offer me?" and I replied "HALF a buck" and she "oh, well that's fine I guess". Also on Sunday I got two sets of RCA cables from a garage sale on the way to the flea market. They're brand new (the guy was a cable installer) and they're the good kind with a nice thick, shielded video cable, so I can replace some of my not so nice cables coming out my switchboxes next time I set up my consoles.
These came from a trade with fellow RFGen member, SnowKitty (an excellent trader BTW). The DKC box has the cardboard insert, manual, inserts, and plastic baggie for the game in it, so my formerly loose copy is now CIB. The other things are stuff I needed to complete other games I had. I traded him 3 PSOnes for all that plus some PayPal money.
Since I didn't buy much this week, I thought I would describe my recent foray into selling my duplicates on eBay. I just started selling on eBay in an attempt to get rid of some of my duplicates quickly, and it's working pretty well so far. With everything I've sold so far (4 auctions thus far) I've made more than enough to break even for the entire month of June. I sold a Vader 2600 with hookups, controllers and 3 common games for around $21. A little lower than I wanted, but whatever, it's out of my hair now. Next was a lot of 2600 joysticks (mostly nonworking) and 2 set of paddles (refurbished) that sold for $3.69. A lot lower than I wanted, but again, I'm just glad they're gone. I also sold a yellowed SNES setup with 5 games for $33. A reasonable price IMO. And finally, a refurbished NES setup with a blue power LED and 10 common games for around $50. I thought that was good price to get for it considering the system is pretty yellowed in the back.
