What started because Hydrobond complained has now come to a ceremonious end with 5000 replies. Ah... memories. This thread started while we were still using yaBB, back when anything over 2000 posts would make the forum cry. Let's try to think of all the things that have happened on the site during the life time of this hallowed thread.
I learned PHP
The Forum switched from YaBB to SMF
The arcade was launched
Eddie and I learned mySQL
Eddie and I coded the switch to mySQL
The hardware database was coded
The submissions system was recoded / coded
Eddie and I learned why mySQL indexes are really important.
The watermark on the fly script was coded
We started tracking submissions
Improvements to the submission system was coded, including regional variants
Toddler Generation was coded
A site redesign was coded.
The submissions system was further tweaked
The news script was completely recoded
The collection tools have been tweaked countless times
That banner image that shows your collection stats was coded
Checklists on the fly were coded
The news script was expanded, creating the community blogs
Work on the submissions system has begun... AGAIN
True Image search work started, but hit a roadblock when it was taking to damn long to index the images for db insertion
We've added these new staff members: Tondog, Tan, Magewout, bum-man, marriott_guy, shadowforte, apolloboy, Belgarath, Funk_Buddy, s1lence, OatBob, Mezmoron, Fuyukaze, JWKobayashi, Shimra, Pop Culture Portal
Sharp rejoined staff
Izret101 is about to be a father
951 New Members
Tan was promoted, twice
OatBob was promoted
Other things I can't think of
The databases have expanded dramatically.
Our community has proved that we, and they, kick ass
So yeah... memories. I can't wait to see what transpires during Part 6. By the time it is decommisisoned I'll have a real job. Fun times, fun times. Stay tuned!
