We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you the January 2019 edition of the RF Generation's Site News! In this issue, we would like to give thanks to our staff for their efforts in 2018, take a moment to discuss our upcoming site Donation Drive in February, announce our February 2019 community playthrough title, unveil the next game for our site shoot 'em up club, update you on our recent 2019 NES Site Challenge, and of course, thank those members who sent in submissions to our site and registered approvals last month. Thanks for keeping it on Channel 3!

REMEMBER: If you have any news about upcoming events or topics that you think the site needs to hear about, please PM singlebanana and put "RFG Site News" in the subject line.  Who knows, maybe your news will make our front page!

Before getting into the meat of the site news, I first wanted to thank our awesome staff for all of their hard work in 2018.  It goes without saying that we cannot make this site what it is without all of your time and effort.  From our tireless database reviewers, to our savy tech staff, our dedicated podcasters and streamers, and to our writers who keep our front page filled great reads and videos, we THANK YOU all for a great year here at RF Generation!

2019 SITE DONATION DRIVE

It's hard to believe, but it's almost that time again.  February 1st marks the start of our annual donation drive here at RF Generation and we are asking that you donate what you can to keep our site running for another year.  While RF Generation is a free site to join, we do have server costs that must be paid on a monthly basis and other expenses throughout the year.  We will be taking donations throughout the month of February in an attempt to once again reach our funding goal of $1,500.00.  As in years past, there will be a raffle with several lots of nice prizes.  For every $10 that you donate, your name will be entered into the drawing.  Winners will select the lot of their choosing based on draw order.

Stay tuned to the front page of RF Generation for details about our Fund Drive kickoff and to view a final listing of all the prize lots.  Thank you!

FEBRUARY 2019 COMMUNITY PLAYTHROUGH

We ended 2018 with a group of golf titles which required precision and accounting for environmental factors. In January, we are playing a methodical, yet relaxing, action RPG on a beloved Nintendo handheld.  Now it's time to switch it up and kick the action into high gear with a more modern title released on PC and various consoles.  This February, join us in our playthrough of Bayonetta!

Bayonetta is a wild, hack and slash, action/adventure title developed by Platinum Games and published by Sega. You play as a sexy, shapeshifting witch who uses various firearms and magical attacks to combat foes. She can even use her hair to summon demons! The game features a rating system, which gives players a grade based on their performance, and a combat system that is similar to the Devil May Cry series, which was also created by Hideki Kamiya.

We hope that you are as excited about this pick as we are, so be sure to grab yourself a copy of the game before the month begins! Also, please join in our discussion of the game by signing up on our Bayonetta thread located HERE.

RF GENERATION SHMUP CLUB - FEBRUARY 2019

The RF Generation Shmup Club will be digging into the archives for our February game of the month. We'll be playing Compile's very first shoot-em-up, the classic Zanac! Jump in the cockpit of the AFX-6502 Zanac spacecraft, and take on hordes of enemy spaceships, cannons, and bases, as you fight the System, literally. You are the last hope of mankind against this bio-mechanical menace. Fly and blast through 12 areas, with a wide assortment of weapons, and screens full of resistance to your mission. Take the fight to the enemy, and save humanity from destruction!

Originally released in 1986 in Japan, both on the MSX home computer, and the Famicom Disk System, Zanac saw release on the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America the following year. An updated version, Zanac EX was released for the MSX2 home computer in 1986 as well. The original versions were also released on the PlayStation, alongside an updated version known as Zanac Neo, in the Zanac x Zanac compilation. The NES version also saw a release on the Wii Virtual Console, and Zanac x Zanac is still available on the PlayStation Network, for the PlayStation 3. Join the RF Generation Shmup Club in February for some classic blasting action!

2019 NES CHALLENGE UNDER WAY!

The 2019 RF Generation NES Challenge has started and our members are off to a "game busting" start.  As of the time of this article, site members have already finished an astounding 55 licensed titles for the Nintendo Entertainment System! Of course some of the games were easily knocked off, but some very challenging titles have already met their doom.  If you haven't heard about the challenge and want to participate, no worries, just head over to our THREAD and claim your first game to beat TODAY! This site challenge is open to all members, new and old alike, so if you have any friends to love NES games, encourage them to join the site for free and play along.  We hope to finish every game in the NES library before the end of 2019, it will take a major effort to accomplish this goal.

Our short-term goal for January to is to complete 100 games and beat a game that they have never played, which should be no problem by the way things are going.  Each month will have a different challenge, so be sure to get notifications of posts to the thread to see what it is.  Participants seem to be enjoying themselves a lot with this community challenge and there should be much more fun (...and frustration) in store, so be sure to join in!
