Guilty Gear, one of the last remaining 2D sprite based fighters, has always been just as fun to play as it has been to listen to. Many of the names of the characters and their special attacks are based on various real world music sources, for example, antagonist Sol Badguy's real name is Fredrick, named after Queen's Freddie Mercury and Ky Kiske's super attack, Ride the Lightning, is named after a Metallica song, just to name a couple. The soundtracks for the games, with the exception of the Korean versions, are done by Daisuke Ishiwatari who also designed the characters, wrote the story, and also voices Sol Badguy in the games. Below I will list some songs from the various games as well as a couple of the vocal albums, I enjoy a lot of the music from the games myself, and I hope that some of you guys will as well.

Holy Orders (Be Just or Be Dead) from Guilty Gear XX

Ky's Theme from GGXX, I don't have much to say about this one. It's a good song, and I think most fans of the series know it.

Keep Yourself Alive II from Guilty Gear XX

Sol Badguy's theme from GGXX.

The Midnight Carnival from Guilty Gear XX

This is the final boss theme from GGXX.

Irony of Chaste from Guilty Gear Isuka

I can't remember who's theme this is, either way, I do enjoy this song.

Keep in Gates from Guilty Gear Accent Core

A.B.A's theme, this song actually sounds pretty different from a lot of the other GGXX songs, which makes it refreshing in a way.

Holy Orders III (Be Just or Be Dead) from Guilty Gear 2: Overture

A remix of Holy Orders from Guilty Gear 2: Overture, this is probably my favorite rendition of the song, as the orchestral parts give the song a real classical feel.

Vortex Infinitum from Guilty Gear XX #Reload (Korean Version)

Robo Ky's theme from the Korean OST of GGXX #Reload, Guilty Gear is one of those odd cases where when it goes to Korea, the game gets an entirely new soundtrack. Most fans of the series don't care for the Korean versions, as they say it sounds nothing like the original songs, but I personally think some of the songs aren't bad.

Writhe in Pain from Guilty Gear XX in LA (Vocal)

A version of Millia's theme from GGXX with English lyrics, this was from one of two CDs that Ishiwatari did that featured various Guilty Gear songs sung with English lyrics.

Awe of She from Guilty Gear XX: SLASH!! CD (Vocal)

A version of Dizzy's theme from GGXX with Japanese lyrics, I believe there is also an English version of this song on either the LA or NY CD, but after hearing this version I must say that I do prefer the Japanese version over the English one.

Well, that's about all I have for this installment. I've decided as a nod to any fans of Ishiwatari's work, I'll include a couple of BlazBlue songs below. I hope you guys enjoyed this article, and I hope to be back to at least one article a week after that two month absence I just had. As always, if you have any requests for games or composers you'd like me to look at for an upcoming Melodic Notation or if you have any other suggestions for an acticle to write just let me know either via e-mail, PM, or catch me sometime when I'm in the RFG chat. Until next time, kids.

Bullet Dance from BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

Noel Vermillion's theme

Queen of Rose from BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

Rachel Alucard's theme, this song is very different from anything in the Guilty Gear series.

Bumped into this entry today... coincidentally, I bought my CCXX'core+ today.

I meant GGXX, of course. Anyway, thanks for the blog, I really love the music in these games, and occasionally just listen to the soundtrack.
