So, Nintendo Wifi Connection. It sucks, really, really hard. Don't kid yourself, if you are looking for a competent online service you certainly will not find it in the land of Nintendo. Just hearing the words "Friend Code" is like listening to a teacher use her fingernails against a blackboard. It simply is not a nice thing, I tell ya. For a company leading the pack in sales, they certainly have no idea how to capitalize on the burgeoning market of digitally distributed content.
So, what is this I am hearing about Wii Pay and Play? An upcharge for online? Perhaps, but right now we just don't know. What we do know is that Wii Pay and Play will be collecting money for "services that will adapt flexibility". What the hell does that mean? Kotaku speculated, so will I. It sounds as though Nintendo wants to print more money. More money that it does not need. So, perhaps they want to screw you, John Q. Consumer. Do you enjoy getting screwed? Personally, the thought of being raped by Nintendo does not entice me.
Perhaps Nintendo will wow us with something that is truly amazing. Show us what you mean, Nintendo, rather than being ultra cryptic about things. Show us that you are going to use this "system" for something awesome. Given your track record in the world of digital distribution and online gaming, I somehow seriously doubt it.
Nintendo Announces Wii Pay & Play [Kotaku]
Okay. No.
No, Nintendo.
I really think they need to start being less vague about this right now to possibly subdue some fears, but if they're seriously trying to get me to pay for Wii online service... I don't even want to pay for Xbox LIVE, and it at least has better service (I could, say, add people that I liked playing against to my friends list; if I had LIVE, that is). I'm cool with paying for downloadable games, sure; and even MAYBE something like an MMO subscription... But there's no way I'm paying to play Phantom Hourglass online. I like it and all, but not THAT much.

Yeah, if the PSN can be free, so should Nintendo's Online service.
|
Nintendo needs to quit with this "I want to be kid friendly online" bullshit. Friends code suck and Nintendo needs to step up. I want to be able to have a list of my friends that I can use across all online games and not mess with this friend codes crap.
|
I wholeheartedly agree, shaggy. I hate friend codes with a passion. I'm a big boy, and I own a Wii. Nintendo needs to realize that not all its customers are 12 year olds.

@TraderJake:
I don't know about you, but I have been saying this since I got my N64 oh so many years ago. Unfortunately they haven't done much to show that they are going to start to tailor their products and services to a more grown-up community of gamers.

I never really had a problem with Wi-Fi connection and I think it's sorta brazen to assume everyone has the same definition of 'screwed' or the same appreciation of things as you.

Nintendo is turning into a bloated pigdog of M$ proportions.
We must stop them ere it be too late.
