Some lucky guy in Marina, California managed to snag Rock Band early from the local Best Buy there. Instead of setting the game up as a demo, the Best Buy accidentally put it out for sale. This guy, "timenz", spotted it, bought it, and put it up on eBay. Needless to say, EA was not very pleased by this at all and gave the man a call asking him to return the game to the store. However, he did not do that. Then he got a call from Best Buy saying that if he returned it, he would receive a full refund and a $100 gift card, but he still refused to do it. He kept the eBay listing up, and now it is going for $326 (as of the time this article was posted).

So, fellow gamer nerds, what would you do in this situation? Auction it or return it for $100?

I'd auction it. He's doing quite well for himself if I must say so myself.

Following in the steps of the Halo 3 Future Weapons special on the Discovery Channel, the Sci-Fi Channel will be airing a special on the making of the hotly anticipated game on November 20th at 10PM (that's Central time because it's the only time that matters). Some details on the special can be found on Sci-Fi Channel's website. Nothing really is known about the special other than it will be on Sci-Fi, will show a look behind the game, and they will be giving away copies of the game. Very descriptive, I know.

An update on an earlier story we had, it looks like the Xbox 360 Arcade model is real, as it has been spotted on shelves at stores.

Microsoft apparently is utilizing the stealth release approach that worked oh so well for Sony's Playstation 3 price drop.

As previously reported, the system will include five games from Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade service (Boom-Boom Rocket, Pac-man, Uno, Feeding Frenzy, and Luxor 2), a 256MB memory card, and a wireless controller, all for the price of $279.99.

So, the console game has just got even more confusing...

The Saturn Database is slowly being completed. I am putting all of the UPCs, Part #s, and Ratings in, but we still need scans!!!

Check out the Image database and see what scans are missing. We need just a couple Front and Back Scans, Quite a few Manual scans, and some game scans. Let's get the database finished!!!

With more of the database finished, it will be easier to see if you have that ultra rare Mortal Combat variant that you have been wanting. Finishing the database is all good!!!

Also, site appeal will go up, and more members may actually register! The big collection guys such as izret, tan, and nes_rules have done so many scans its not funny, so even if you can't do scans, try putting in part numbers and such, on any game for any system. Give back to the best gaming site there is, RFGeneration!!!!

Edit: Im soooooo sorry i forgot to put you in there Tan! Lets give him a round of applause!!

Posted under Rumor, Microsoft, Bungie, Xbox 360, Oni, Myth, FREE AT LAST FREE AT LAST

Yes, you did not misread that headline. Rumor has it that the developer of Oni and Myth, Bungie, is leaving Microsoft.

The rumor originated on a website I've never heard of named 8Bit Joystick.com. Today, Jake from that site posted that a friend of his who has a friend that works at Bungie told him that they are leaving Microsoft. Not exactly the greatest source in the world, but it sounds very plausible...

This "friend of a friend" stated that the split would have been announced today, but MS didn't want it to affect their 3rd quarter earnings, so it will be announced on the 6th of this month. However, the non disclosure agreement was lifted today.

Here is the email as quoted on 8Bit Joystick.com...
Quote
"So heres my big secret. You should google Bungie + Microsoft + separation this week.
You know that big ol BILLION dollar franchise Bungie has created for Microsoft, to show their appreciate Microsoft is letting Bungie leave. Of course Microsoft gets to keep all rights to the Halo franchise, but as today Bungie no longer part of Microsoft. Ask anyone who works there to search the global address book, they're no longer in there. Microsoft was supposed to release the press release today but if they wait till the 10/6 the impact wont effect the quarterly results. However today is the actual official date and the day the NDAs expire, however you still didn't hear this from me."

"Apparently MS just wants Bungie to make Halo for the rest of their natural days, and Bungie doesn't like how MS is constantly trying to "handle" everything they do; the way they market their games, the way they interact with their fans (basically the fact that they do appreciate their fans), and how stingie they are with the profits (comparable to the rest of the industry). So as of today they are their own independent entity. They'll probably make Halo 4 for Microsoft, however hey are also free to create new intellectual properties for whatever system they want. (Even though they prefer the xbox platform)"

"What a way to say thank you."

I certainly wouldn't be surprised if this rumor was true, because if you were a game company, would you want to stick to making one game forever and ever? I think not. And from Microsoft's point of view, this makes sense because they could make money off of selling Bungie, while still retaining the Halo license. That way, they can license the work on the Halo franchise out to other companies that would require less money to make it, and MS would still sell the same amount of copies since Halo is a big name. All the while, Bungie goes off on their own and makes games that Microsoft would never allow them to do. All parties are happy.

In response to these rumors, game blog Kotaku contacted Bungie, who redirected them to Microsoft's PR Firm who in response said "There's been no such announcement. We continue to celebrate the tremendous success of the global phenomenon that is Halo 3."

Is it true? Keep it on Channel 3 for the latest...

UPDATE:
The originator of the rumor is sticking to his word:
http://www.8bitjoystick.c...up_and_thats_my_story.php

Locks are being changes at Bungie's headquarters...

This is getting jucier...

Posted under Rumors, Microsoft, Xbox 360, Chopping block, About damn time

According to Kotaku, an internal Gamestop email has been sent out requesting that all stores take down current signs and promotional material for the Xbox 360 Core model, because once the current stock is sold out, there won't be any more. In other words, the Xbox 360 Core is being discontinued.

Why would MS be eliminating the Core model (other than the obvious fact that it's a horrible deal)? To replace it with a new rumored Core model named Xbox 360 Arcade, which will not include a hard drive, but will include a 256mb memory card, a wireless controller, and 5 Xbox Live Arcade games.

What do I think of this rumor? I say, it's about damn time they get rid of the Core. No one is buying it, and it just makes sense to get rid of it. However, I don't know that replacing it with another model is a good idea either because if people just want casual games, they'll go to Wii or DS, which is where most of the casual games are these days.

This weekend, the biggest battle in gaming wasn't in stores, it was on the race track at Dover International Speedway for the Dodge Dealers 400, which is part of the NASCAR Nextel Cup series. The battle pitted David Stremme, driving the #40 Halo 3 car, and Greg Biffle, driving the #16 Nintendo Wii car. The results of the race are as follows.

Greg Biffle and the Wii Ford Fusion took home 2nd place, beat out by Carl Edwards. However, Carl's car failed the post race inspection, which could result in a penalty for him. As far as David Stremme and the Halo 3 Dodge Avenger is concerned, well, heh, it got a real life "Red Ring Of Death." The engine in the Avenger blew up, which took him out of the race.

Could this be foreshadowing for the future? Wii takes 2nd place while 360 just RRODs itself to death? Where was the PS3 car?! Could they not find any drivers for it? Who knows...

All I know is that I really don't give a crap about NASCAR.

It seems that what The Hollywood Reporter said a week ago is coming true...Xbox 360 is getting a $50 price cut (For the Pro model. It's $30 if you're an Elite fan or $20 if you're going for the Core) next week.

Wait a minute! Didn't we go through this whole rigmarole a few weeks ago with Sony's PS3 price cut? We sure did, but what makes this round different? A ton more evidence and leaked ads...

Wal-Mart:

Toys "R" Us:

Circuit City:

And the latest rumor from today comes from a leaked email sent to GameStop stores.

What are these marketing materials mentioned? Hmm, I bet it's either Halo 3 posters or 360 price cut signage. My guess is that it's the latter because they've been promoting the crap out of the former for what seems like a year now and probably don't need more promo material for it. Plus it seems in line with what's being reported all over the internet.

Why cut the 360's price tag? Well, there are some very good reasons for them to do so right now. First, PS3 just got a hefty price cut, and a price cut will help the 360 look even more attractive to consumers. Second, it's been out for dang near 2 years without a price cut. Seems like a long time to me. Three, um, isn't there something coming out next month? I forget.

In light of all this evidence and my own speculation, I rule...
TONY'S JUDGEMENT: Definitely happening

Earlier in the day, a vicious rumor began to surface regarding Peter Moore, the head honcho over at X-Box station. It was rumored that Mr. Moore would be resigning his position in order to take over the helm at EA sports. Well, after about 4 hours speculation this nasty rumor has been confirmed -- Peter Moore is leaving Microsoft for the publishing giant known as EA.

Of course, you may be wondering who will be taking over Peter's previous job. That person would be Don Mattrick. Previously he was an outside adviser for Microsoft, and oddly enough before that he was President of EA. Strange isn't it?

We here at RF Generation wish the best for Mr. Moore, and we certainly hope he finds himself at home at EA Sports. Somehow, I think he'll be rather quick to adjust from one monster of a company to another, but certainly we can't wait to see what Peter Moore does in his new job, or if he has any insightful comments he'd like to say about Microsoft's X-Box business.
