In this month's episode of the PlayCast, Rich (singlebanana) and Shawn (GrayGhost81) are joined by long-time friend and former co-host of the show, Disposed Hero to discuss June's playthrough, Metal Gear Solid 2. Join us as we sift our way through this winding narrative and give our thoughts on the gameplay, environments, music, and sounds. While Shawn is an avid supporter of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, this is Rich's first experience with MGS2. Will their opinions of the game differ or be the same?  Tune in and find out!

Also be sure to check out this month's Concertcast, which features an event that we've never tried before, an album fantasy draft.  This month's topic: Top 6 Grunge Albums. We want to know from our listeners, who has the best list?

As always, we are happy to hear your thoughts on the games we play on our discussion page (linked below). We will respond to your comments and are always happy to discuss the games in detail. In this month's episode, the Playcast and the Shoot the Corecast join forces with Cammy and her Anti-Robot Special Forces to take on an onslaught of robot terrorists in Psikyo's Cannon Spike on the Sega Dreamcast. Rich (singlebanana), Shawn (GrayGhost81), Josh (MetalFRO) and Addicted discuss the ends and outs of this wannabe twin-stick shooter and determine whether this pricey title is one that you need to add to your collection. During the Concertcast segment, the guys choose three bands/artists that they would like to see if breakups and deceased members were no obstacle. We are extremely excited to present this RF Generation site podcast crossover as we play through this action packed title.  Ask yourself, are YOU ready for Baby Mode?

Join RF Generation Playcast hosts, Rich (singlebanana) and Shawn (GrayGhost81), as the "Dynamic Duo" (R.I.P. Adam West) discuss one of Ninja Theory's early, third-person, action/adventure titles, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. This month's Playcast flashes forward (...errr we kinda hope not) into dystopian America where humans are being "enslaved" by a mysterious source and our world has been taken over by blood-thirsty robots. Yeeeeeesh!  In this episode, we talk about the gameplay mechanics, some "despicable" and yummy characters, the game's soundtrack, and pose our thoughts on Enslaved's ending. Did this game's sometimes glitchy tendencies muck up what could have been a great title? Did Rich's modern game skill shortcomings prevent him from finishing the game? And how does Shawn reeeeeeeeeally feel about "Hidden Gems?" The answers to these questions and many more in this month's episode of the RF Generation Playcast!

I think that I speak for the entire staff here at RF Generation when I say that we are absolutely STUNNED by the amount of submissions that have already been added to the database during this year's Pain Yourself With Submissions contest.  So far, during the month of May alone, our dedicated database review staff has approved over 11,000.............YES, I said 11,000 new submissions to our database!  That's an absurd amount of submissions and it doesn't even include those submitted at the beginning of our contest in April, and certainly does not include the avalanche of submissions that we anticipate during the final week of the contest this month (contest ends June 8th).  I must say that I am very humbled and proud of the work our members have done during the contest and that your tireless efforts have gone a long way in making our database one, if not THE BEST, sources for video game-related information on the Internet.

Please remember that here are not only bragging rights at stake for the winner, but also a super sweet prize package, which includes your choice of $60 worth of gaming goodness from GameGavel, eBay, or Amazon, and an official RF Generation ringer T-shirt.  If you have any questions about the rules for the contest and want to join (it's not too late), you can find more information here: http://www.rfgeneration.c...ons-Contest-2016-3286.php

Also, a BIG shoutout to our staff of approvers who have taken careful efforts to review all of these submissions.  Nice work gents, your time and commitment is certainly appreciated.

Thank you to all who have participated and good luck to all in the upcoming week!

For our June Community Playthrough, we will be playing the often overlooked hidden gem for the Super NES, Illusion of Gaia!  This title (known in PAL regions as Illusion of Time) is an action RPG whose gameplay can most likely be compared to such other SNES classics as Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore, and has also drawn comparisons to the classic Legend of Zelda games.  However, this game features a unique leveling system that eschews experience points in favor of a permanent stat bonus every time you clear an area of enemies.

In Illusion of Gaia, you play as Will, a young boy from a small seaside town.  He accompanies his father on an expedition to uncover the secrets of the Tower of Babel, but the explorers instead met with a mysterious disaster.  Will, the only known survivor of this expedition, manages to make it back to his hometown, although he does not remember how.  Now, a year later, a mysterious being known as Gaia tells him that he must leave his home to save the world from a coming evil.  Perhaps you may also finally discover the truth behind the ill-fated expedition along the way?

Illusion of Gaia will take you on an epic journey across many real-world, historical locations, including ancient Incan ruins and the Great Wall of China.  Armed with only a flute, you will have to defeat many enemies and epic bosses, solve puzzles, and harness the powers that Will gains along the way.   Will you be able to save the world from its impending doom? Join us this June for what will be a playthrough of epic proportions and give it a shot!

In June, we dropped considerably from our 6,000+ submissions mark set in May. The biggest reason for this decline was due to our annual Pain Yourself With Submissions contest held primarily during the previous month. At this time, the staff would like to congratulate the one and only (thank goodness) Zagnorch on what was a very impressive contribution during this year's contest. During this time, he submitted 2,364 total images to our database, not to mention several other great additions! Thank you Zagnorch and everyone who participated in this year's contest, the site is better because of all of your efforts. You can check out the overall results here and please note that staff scores have not been adjusted (1/2 credit): http://rfgeneration.com/P...t.php?action=contest;id=8

Though we didn't quite reach the 6,000+ mark, the effort in June was still VERY impressive with a grand total of 2,207 submissions!  Of these submissions, 1,741 were game submissions, and 446 were related to hardware. Of these, 1,382 of them were images.  On behalf of the administrators and staff, "Thank You" to all who contributed to the site in June. Thanks also go out to our hardworking staff of approvers who reviewed each of these submissions and added them to our ever growing database.

In May, we continue to rack our brains with some early RPG tactical warfare in Shining Force and we're still cutely platforming our way through Dreamland strand-by-strand in Kirby's Epic Yarn. This June, join Disposed Hero and singlebanana as we ratchet up the action with the Capcom classics, Mega Man 2 & 3 (NES/3DSVC & the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for GC/PS2/XBox) for the retro playthrough.  On the modern side, fill your hands for an all out assault to save the galaxy in the original Mass Effect (360/PS3/PSN/Steam/PC) with your hosts Fleach and GrayGhost81.

We started out January of this year with a *BANG* by shooting our way through Angel Land and the streets of some unknown Middle Eastern locale. Currently, we are tromping through Hyrule to rescue the descendants of the Seven Sages and unlocking the mystery behind the 9 doors of a sinking vessel. The month of March will be no slouch either and will be jam-packed with furious action! On the retro side, we join an unlikely, and undead, hero in his quest to defend the land of Gallowmere from the return of an evil sorcerer in MediEvil for the PSX and PSN. On the modern side, we make our first return to the Batman series (since our playthrough in April 2013) as we once again take up the cowl and cape of the Dark Knight in the third installment of the Arkham series, Batman: Arkham Origins on the PS3, 360, WiiU and PC.  We hope that you will join us for one, if not two, great games next month!
