Since we're nearing the end of Season 1, and we've got a holiday weekend (of sorts), I thought I'd provide everyone with the rest of the episodes for Season 1, and start off November with the beginning of Season 2, where full episodes begin!
S1E8: Door Door
Arino takes on Chunsoft's challenge for this episode. Door Door is a Famicom-exclusive Puzzle/Platforming game in which the User traps aliens behind doors to clear a level.

S1E9: Three Challenges
This episode, Arino is tasked with clearing challenges for 3 titles: Yie Ar Kung-Fu, Gradius, and Hyper Olympic (Track & Field outside JPN). This episode features an extended length challenge, so dig in an enjoy.

Yie Ar Kung-Fu: Obtain the special bonus on the bonus stage.
Gradius: Unlock 3 secret features - Get 5000 points by touching the volcano in Stage 1, Get a 1-UP by touching the diamond rock in Stage 1, and Warp 2 levels by destroying the Big Core while it glows blue in Stage 2.
Hyper Olympic: Beat the game records for all 4 sports.

S1E10: Super Mario Brothers
In this episode, Arino challenges Super Mario Bros. 2 on the Famicom DiscSystem (Lost Levels outside JPN). In preparation for the challenge, he takes on the original Super Mario Bros. How will he fare against the extremely challenge of Super Mario Bros. 2? Do you, the viewers, feel that Nintendo's decision to port Doki Doki Panic with Mario sprites and name it Super Mario Bros. 2 instead of giving consumers the actual Super Mari Bros. 2 due to the extreme challenge was warranted after seeing this challenge?

Wow, I've never seen him fail so many time in a row. The ruler trick in the second video was funny.
I think Super Mario Bros 2 would have done fine over here. It may have even set a record for most letters sent in to the Nintendo Power Game Counsellors. My brother and I beat the Lost Levels version a few years back, but I think that one had a save feature. Even if it didnt now I know about the lives trick on the first level!

@Crabmaster2000: Lost Levels had its difficulty reduced greatly vs. the Super Mario Bros. 2 JPN version. It's not even comparable in terms of difficulty.
The ruler trick is well known, though I've been able to get better results without it than he got. Of course, it doesn't help that Track & Field competitions are what contributed to my currently problems with CTS, but it was fun while it lasted.

Sounds like I need to get myself a famicom eventually and give it a go then!

Great episodes, and poor Arino was getting his butt kicked. I'd love to get SMB2 at some point, need to get a FDS first though. After watching I would like to get copies of Door Door and Yie Ar Kung Fu.
|
@Duke.Togo: That's my hope on showing all of these episodes. Many people have not been exposed to many of the Japanese-exclusive titles that are shown on Gamecenter CX, and through this show I've grown to love many titles that I would never have experienced otherwise.
|
I really enjoyed Gradius III on SNES, so I'll have to check out the NES version someday.
Also, lol at ruler power.
|
Just watched Super Mario Bros 2, and that looks like a pretty brutal game. Now I really want an FDS...
|
Man, this has been the best in the series so far (I've watched the videos in order).
Video 1: Door, door. Funny. Is that the Ghost in the Shell theme they play at the end as victory music?
Video 2: 3 challenges. The ruler trick is rediculous, especially the way it looks when he's really into it!
Video 3: SMB2. This is "The Lost Levels" in the rest of the world, right? Because I don't have that game. Is it on NES or SNES (or both)? Some of the jumps look very hard. To beat the game, you only need to get to the flag (in the clouds, after the vine) at level 8-2? Why didn't he try again, as he was almost there?
Fantastic videos. I love all the sound effects they put in them, so crazy.

@Sirgin: Ah, crap, I can't read. Shadow's text already says it's "The Lost Levels" in the rest of the world. My bad!
