2007 is dead. Long live 2007. Looking back, there were some nice games. Bioshock, The Orange Box, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Mass Effect, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters- certainly, there were some good games that came out. But yeah, such things are now in the past. The question now becomes what are you looking forward to in 2008? I've got a few games that I am looking forward to, read about them after the jump.

Spore
What? It's 2008?! Damn, wasn't this game supposed to come out years ago? DNF, perhaps? I sure hope not. After all, Team Fortress 2 eventually got released, right? RIGHT?! No matter, I am confident that at some time this year that Spore will be released, and it will be totally great. Choirs of angels will trumpet its arrival. I'll create my race of mutant supermen that take over the universe- because I can. I'm evil bastard, ain't I? Fear me, mortals. Fear me and my mutant supermen.

In all seriousness, Spore is certainly a game to look forward. As it is being developed under the watchful eye of Will Wright, I am completely confident that this game will be a winner. The concept is genius. Start at the primordial ooze and grow your organism to greatness. Decide what path you want your organism to take. Be a god. Sounds like a fun, engaging experience to me. Or perhaps it will be Darwinism at work. Time shall tell.

LittleBigPlanet
Sure, the game oozes cute. But there is more to the game than cute. It's sort of like the Nibblonians of Futurama. Only instead of a huge desire to eat, LittleBigPlanet allows for customization out the wahzoo. Build what you want, how you want, see how it affects other objects. Personally, it looks like a blast, and it seems like something that should be a sleeper hit for the PS3.

I know, something good for the PS3, who'd have thought? Certainly I wouldn't. Haha- that was a joke. Deep breath there, Tony. But LittleBigPlanet certainly has the charm and concept necessary to be a hit. Vibrant design, sandbox mode, and a theme song by The Go! Team, I am definitely looking forward to this charm, and I hope you are too.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
I really wish that this game came out in 07. Sadly, it was delayed stateside to February, 08. Sigh, I was really looking forward to playing this game over Christmas break. Oh well. I'll find time to play it during my quarter from hell, of course I will.

So, I imagine that if you did not enjoy the Smash Bros of old you likely won't enjoy Brawl. However, I imagine that most people probably enjoyed the game. What will make this game better than Melee? Here are a few reasons. First, let's look at the stages that have been released. Pictochat? Warioware? Rumble Falls!? Certainly, these levels kick major ass. Next, let's talk about stage builder- that's right, you can build your own stages. You can apparently even share them via the god forsaken friend codes. **shudders** Okay, maybe not that, but yeah, you can submit them to Nintendo so that they are featured. Pretty cool- sort of like a new stage a day. Exciting times. Speaking of those friend codes, **shudders** there happens to be online Brawl for this game. Sweet. Finally I can beat up on eight year olds legally. Sweet. Lastly, something that is a treat probably only to me. The music. I love game music, and this game is a fan service when it comes to music. Such great songs and remixes. They are truly amazing, and if you haven't checked out the music yet, I recommend that you do.

So, the question is, what are you looking forward to playing in 2008? What makes the game high on your list? Let us know, it certainly is awesome to see what everyone is looking forward to playing in the New Year.

My most anticipated game is easily Lost Odyssey. Made by practically the entire Shadow Hearts team as well as many Final Fantasy team members I really don't think I've been more excited over an RPG. Sadly I won't be playing it because I don't have a 360 but in due time.

As for games I can actually get, Final Fantasy IV DS looks outstanding, as well as Dragon Quest IX. Suikoden I&2 as well as Shin Megami Tensai for the PSP look like games I'd buy right away. Crisis Core seems like it is pretty sweet as well.

Yeah, I'm officially an RPG junkie, what can I say? Oh and not sure when they come out but Apollo Justice and Bleach 2nd are obviously top choices if you know me.

I'm looking forward to getting the titles that I missed from 2007 in calendar year 2008:
Rock Band
COD4
Assassin's Creed
VF5 Online
Blue Dragon
The Orange Box
and many others

But for 2008 itself, I'm looking forward to the following:

Too Human: Silicone Knights has pushed this one back a full year now, and from the recent trailers I've seen it looks like it's going to be worth it. It seems to be shaping up to be an excellent action RPG.

Ninja Gaiden 2: Tecmo's Team Ninja...can't go wrong; almost as reliable as Bioware. The blood factor in this one is ramped up too.

Soul Calibur 4: It's unknown if this will make it to 2008, but my enjoyment of previous installments, and the possibility of online, make this a must-buy.

Fable 2: Hoping Molyneux has enough horsepower under the 360 to make good on his promises this time. There's still no official release date, but estimates are "Fall '08".

Fallout 3: drool From what I've seen, this one could sap away many hours. Another solid action RPG.

Prototype: Free-roaming action. Reminds me of Crackdown.

Star Wars-The Force Unleashed: Be Darth Vader's badass secret apprentice? Where do I sign? The videos released of the physics engine make this one look to be one outstanding action title.

Mercenaries 2-Up in Flames: Blow stuff up and get paid.

Borderlands: What so categorize this as...maybe a Sci-Fi action RPG shooter? From what I've seen, the weapon customization on this one is going to be something special.

Curious about the following...
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic: Elements
Lost Odyssey
Frontlines: Fuel of War
Dark Sector
Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom
Dead Island
Left For Dead
Dead Space
Halo Wars
GTA 4
DMC 4
Fracture
Culdcept Saga

And although they haven't been announced yet, we know we're likely to see Guitar Hero 4 and Rock Band 2 in 2008. Cool

The game I'm most looking forward to in 08 has got to be LittleBigPlanet. I've been in love with the game since it was first announced a year or so ago. I can't wait to see how the final product turns out and how the community is.

Other 08 games I'm looking foward to:

No More Heros: This is shaping up to be the best Wii game ever. Suda 51 is a genius.

Brutal Legend: Tim Schafer + Jack Black = Epic Combination. Plus I got to support Double Fine whenever I can.

Echochrome: Looks like a very unique and challenging puzzle game.

Fracture: It looks like it's taking the destructable terrain concept from Red Faction (god what an underrated shooter) and expanding on it.

Infamous: Crackdown clone or not, it's by Sucker Punch, and I liked what they did with Sly Cooper on PS2.

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue: Demo, yeah, but it looks like a pretty full featured demo (if there's such a thing).

Patapon: A rhythm game + a strategic war game + LocoRoco?! Count me in!

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney: Continuation of one of my favorite franchises.

Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law: A Phoneix Wright clone by Capcom based on a hilarious TV series? Heck yes!

Killzone 2: I know every PS3 fan says this one, but I at least want to see if it lives up to the hype...which it probably won't.

Alan Wake: If it comes out this year at least. I loved Max Payne, and this could push me to get a 360.

Borderlands: I like the looks of this. Gearbox is a pretty solid developer.

Saboteur: Might be an intersting take on the overdone WW2 FPS genre.

Other games which may or may not come out in 08 that look awesome: Duke Nukem Forever, Resistance Fall of Man 2, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, Banjo Kazooie 3, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Insecticide, De Blob, Alone in the Dark, and the list goes on forever.
