Nintendo's development from fan-favorite to arrogant leadership really is depressing. Instead of making any effort at all to develop new "game" franchises (I won't consider 10-minute shlock like Wii Sports or Wii Music "games") or to localize Japanese gems like Tales of Innocence, they're taking the quick and easy path and cater to this hip trend of casual games. Never before in the history of video games has the leading position on the market been so undeserved as with the Wii. Seriously, is it fair that a console with a library consisting of 85% pure garbage can be so successful? It's not even as innovative as Nintendo tends to praise it - motion control has already been around during the 8-Bit days in one way or another (Wii mote - Power Glove; Wii fit - roll & rocker, in some way...). And in what way have these games enhanced the experience of actually playing games? Either a 10 minute gimmick (Wii Sports), no improvement at all (c'mon, don't tell me Resident Evil 4 got THAT much better with Wii mote?) or actually worse controls (shaking your mote around mindlessly will often grant you success...that's not really praise-worthy). Now what if some day, casual gamers will grow tired of this current trend and lose interest in the Wii? Then Nintendo will have to rely on its fanbase, and who knows whether or not they will accept Nintendo crawling back to them and begging for forgiveness...sorry, but Animal Crossing (it'S gonna be the same game as on Gamecube and DS, anyway) and GTA DS (big deal...) are by far not enough to satisfy the needs of any serious Wii gamer, and 3rd party support doesn't seem to improve, either...so as far as the game library goes, Nintendo is falling far behind Microsoft. Man, I really hope Nintendo is going to fall flat on their face with their current strategy and come back to their senses and quality games.

LMAO "Mom I really don't like Nintendo"

Reggie Fils-Aime is a tool.
Nintendo has been making essentially the same games on each of their consoles for 3 generations now... Super Smash Bros-->Super Smash Bros Melee-->Super Smash Bros Brawl Metroid Prime 1 and 2-->Metroid Prime 3 Mario Kart-->Super Mario Kart-->Mario Kart Wii Paper Mario-->Paper Mario the 1000 year door-->Super Paper Mario and now Animal Crossing --> Animal Crossing Wii. And I'm sure there are others I'm overlooking.
Just because gamers bought into these franchises in the past, doesn't mean that they're among the "hardcore" gamers.
What they really need is QUALITY 3rd party support...and they're not getting it. There are a few decent 3rd party games out there I'm sure. But nothing that jumps out as a system seller.
Previously, I had marginal interest in getting a Wii, but now I have no interest in the Wii.

@phoenix1967:
There is quality 3rd party support on the Wii. Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, Boom Blox, Mad World, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Mad World, Bully, Okami, etc etc.
Also: Super Paper Mario is NOTHING like the previous two...
Oh and:
Halo 1 and 2-->Halo 3 Project Gotham Racing 1, 2-->Project Gotham Racing 3, 4 Forza-->Forza 2
See how it works? Not like Nintendo is the only one guilty of this. Sony and MS are just as bad. Sequelitis/same game syndrome is not just a Nintendo problem, it's an industry-wide problem.
The problem with the Wii is that it's wasted potential. The games could be brilliant, but they just aren't. Reason being is that there's too much money in this "casual" market right now.

^You mentioned Mad World twice...

As Morgan Webb said after the conference, if you could choose between hardcore gamers and everyone else, who would you go after? It's a sad, sad realization that Nintendo truly is going after everyone else on the Wii while at the same time forgetting about the people who allowed them to get to this point.

@Tondog:
Take away the ports and multiplatform games, you have 4 games listed and one of them isn't even out yet or has proven itself. Nearly 2 years have gone by and look at what the 3rd parties have to show for themselves. It's a 1st party system no doubt, more than the Gamecube was which hurt it in the end, and more than the N64 which hurt it a bit as well.
Hardcore = lose Casual = win
It's easy to see why they've chosen this path, as sad as it is. The money, support and appeal all rests in those Wii Music fans. The people who really gel with Nintendo's new ideals, don't read gaming sites or buy gaming magazines. Welcome to PC gaming in the 90's when the consoles really took a chunk out of the hardcore user market.
But these are all tired arguments and complaints from those of us who'd like to see a return to what made them great in the first place. That Nintendo is long gone now. They would never sacrifice their success to earn the hardcore gamers respect again, it doesn't pay the bills anymore.

@phoenix1967:
It's so amazing looking that it deserves to be mentioned twice.

@Tondog:
I was waiting for you to say that. If you didn't I would have.
