Recently, I've been asked to report the work I've been doing on RFGeneration as a possible Conflict of Interest for the company that I work for. This is mainly a precaution to cover myself and the site from any future interest from the company, and to protect the company's reputation. While this process is going on, I've been asked to cease any work to the site until further notice. I'm clarifying with them now what access (if any) I'll have to the site until the decision is made (possibly mid-July), but in the interest of protecting the site during that time period, I'll be leaving the staff of RFGeneration.

For many of you that were PM'ing me details with your submissions, please feel free to use the appropriate feedback threads on the Announcement and Feedback forum. Izret has volunteered to help out with the reviews and submissions I normally take and he can reach me if there are any questions if I'm forced away entirely from the site, which I don't expect to be the case. I'll continue to ask any questions posted on the forums and still be a presence if possible, but I don't have any staff access.

In all honesty, this is something that should've happened a while ago that is just now coming up. This helps future-proof the site should there be any concerns that come up, and means that my work would truly belong to RFGeneration.

It feels so odd not to see all of the staff functions after seeing them every day for close to 3 years. Sad

Sorry to hear it. Hopefully EA will understand and be lenient.

No one else is nearly as qualified as you are to keep track of all the KotOR games and Pokemon Game Boy carts I find. Hope something can be worked out...

REALLY hope we don't lose around here. Keep us posted and good luck!

@Duke.Togo: This probably would've blown over quickly, but with everything going on with the industry right now, they've got bigger problems to focus on. As I said, I've been told not to expect any issues, but they need to have time to check things out first.

dick move EA, hopefully they let you keep using the site Sad what will we do without our variant guru?

So they're interested in RFgen?

@techwizard: Honestly, I'm glad they brought it up. It's in the site's best interest to get resolved as quickly as possible. Many software publishers have the same exact agreement, and they want to ensure that the site is protected from any future interests and possibly litigation.

@KidA: They're interested in any external projects that employees are working on. In the past, employees have attempted to patent algorithms and designs, but due to the agreement the work was considered the company's property. The purpose of these investigations is to investigate if the work is something they want to help protect - in the case of patents, they want to see if it's something the company needs to protect or something that the programmer should own as a patent. For the site here, they just want to verify that it's not in the company's interest to protect my work as their own.

I completely understand this from EA's perspective. If I were a software company I would want to make sure my employees weren't engaged in practices that compromise my business.

I'm sure they'll be rather disappointed in how mundane your activities are here. Wink

@Duke.Togo: Probably, but I just want to clarify it's not a punishment type of thing. They just want to make sure that RFGeneration officially owns my work, not them. Smiley

Ahh I see.  It's more in the realm of Bob Loblaw's type of thing lol.  Well I hope no discrepancies arise!

See you soon Shadow.  Take care of business so you can continue to take care of ours.

Aw, crap.  Now I'm going to have to start submitting differently again.

Anyways, I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened earlier, given where you work.  Your firm, yet loving hand will be missed (in variants).

Your comments and insights have been helpful in submissions.  Hope things go smoothly and routinely for you.

I hope everything works out soon.

Maybe we will see the EA games logo when logging into rfgen soon? lol

Cry

Your expertise will be missed, but I am glad to hear that it may only be temporary. I hope that your presence will still be here.  Hope everything goes well.

Well as much as it sucks not having the bossman around i'm sure you can use this time to get in to some stuff you've been putting off? For a guy that lives and breathes video games maybe you can get back to more of the player side Tongue Good luck with everything Shadow!

@h1ghw1nd: Incidentally, I was going to have a free weekend where I was going to write up some new staff features and squash a few bugs for the site. Now I'll just put a hunt dent into my Windows Phone games to catch up to the #1 person in the state.

Want me to head on up to Redwood city and give the bigwigs at HQ a talking to on your behalf? Just say the word...

Hello, I've been following the site for years,  I'm new to the site as a member and was wondering to to contact when I noticed an error on one of the lists. It's on the Nintendo NES list.
Is there a way to directly email the owner or just using forums?
Thanks.
