Well, another season of treasure hunting and bargaining is now over (for the most part anyway). We went to a few garage sales this weekend and didn't find a single thing, and didn't even bother going to the flea market due to cold weather.

Looking back this season was a blast, found some awesome new treasures, met tons of people, and it even got me a staff position on the greatest website ever. It saddens me to think this season is over but after looking back at all the stuff I got, I think I'm ready to take a break from buying games and maybe spending a little more time actually playing them.

And now, a recap of the 2008 Treasure Hunting season with what I thought were my best finds. But, please, if something I bought really impressed you and I didn't put it on my list, feel free to leave a comment.

Intelligent Qube!

Ahh, this was from my first THC, which comprised of the first 3 weeks of the season, which was in April. I got these for $1 each, the only reason I'm noting this rather boring looking lot is because of the Intelligent Qube. PS1 collectors know of the rarity/value of this gem.

Guitar Hero II

This was an awesome weekend. I remember getting this for $20, but it's not necessarily the price that rocks, it's the game itself that rocks (that pun wasn't intended, but I like it so it's staying). This was one of the few games I actually played a lot this past year.

3DO!!!

This was a deal that certainly made my day. I bought a few games last year and had been on the lookout for the system ever since. I would have paid several times more than what I paid for this, but luckily all I had to pay was $5.

TG-16!!!

This is my favorite treasure of the year. A perfectly working TG-16 with a bunch of games. I remember these were in a paper grocery bag and I didn't even bother looking to see what games were in the bag. I just saw the $15 price sticker and took it up to the person taking the money and offered $10, which was accepted.

$10 PS2 Slim!

This is really nothing special as Slim PS2 systems are literally everywhere, but what made this special was simply the price, which was $10. I've been using it since I bought it and have had no problems whatsoever.

Game & Watch!

This is probably my second favorite find of the year. This was from a large sale that had a ton of loose PS1 games mixed in with a couple boxes of junk. One guy was in front of me, that was obviously a flea marketer or eBayer and picked out any games that were complete. But, luckily for me, he missed this gem. It's mine now, and all it cost me was $5 for this and bunch of other stuff.

My personal Holy Grail

This isn't really anything spectacular as Sega Master Systems aren't exactly rare and the price wasn't super great at $20, but it was something I've wanted since I started collecting and this was the first one I had ever seen, so I had to buy it.

James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing!!!

SMS Collector's know why this one is worth mentioning, it's valued at between $100-$150. And there hasn't been one on eBay since I got this in September. And all it cost me was $5 plus a few commons in a trade, and I got 18 other SMS games in the deal as well.

Snatcher!!!

This is in the same category as the last one, in fact I got it from the same guy. This was one of the first (of many) things I bought from him. I don't know much about Sega CD games and I didn't even have a checklist for the system at this point, so I had no idea if it was worth anything. But the name sounded familiar so I took a chance for $3.

Finally, an Xbox

This was from a huge tent sale and this was really the only good stuff at the sale. Everything was priced individually, so I offered $50 for everything, about half what it would have been individually. As it wasn't a normal garage sale day, I didn't have the cash on me, so I had to come back later that day and thankfully, it was all still there. Everything worked great too, although she said the Xbox was used for only a couple hours, but according to the saves on the system, it had quite a bit of love.

I still am drooling over everything....

Nice memories indeed. Smiley

I don't think I want to hear about your deals anymore, they make me cry 'cause I never find anything like them

In one summer, you managed to make a collection in itself.  Well done!

I'm still in love with your TG-16 haul.  You had a great year for finds.

@Alfador: You've got probably 5-6 months where I won't be finding much if anything Smiley

@OatBob: Yeah, I guess I did, dozens of systems and hundreds of games would be a pretty good collection by itself laugh

@Ghost Soldier: I love that TG-16 too. It doesn't get as much play time as it deserves though. One of these days I'll get around to putting some serious time into it.

That TG-16 has like, what, 30 games next to it? For $10?? DUDE.

Just took a look at your collection profile: 1682 items!!?

By the way, love your wishlist. That is the wishlist of a true collector.

The gaming GODS really do love you.

HOW COME I NEVER FIND MEGA CD GAMES IN MY LOCAL CAR BOOT?! LET ALONE SNATCHER!

@gamepopper101: Ah, this was a nice little stroll down memory lane reading this again. I had forgotten about some of the amazing deals I had gotten in 2008. But, yeah, I don't really come across Sega CD games too often, almost all the ones I've bought were from the same guy I bought Snatcher from. In fact, I still buy something from him nearly every week, although all his SCD games are long gone considering I bought most of them. I was very lucky to get Snatcher, I wasn't even sure if it was worth anything, but the name sounded familiar so I took a chance. Luckily it was one of the few times I remembered a game because it was rare and not because it was a terrible/worthless game.
