In this month's episode of the PlayCast, Rich (singlebanana) and Shawn (GrayGhost81) discuss a game on the original XBox that many consider a "hidden gem."  Released as a means to increase XBox sales in Japan, Phantom Dust is a 3rd person arena battler with "card" mechanics. Join us as we discuss the game's complex gameplay mechanics and its unique graphical and musical styles.  In this month's Concertcast, the guys reveal their Top 6 tracks that celebrate life.  Is Phantom Dust the gem that others claim it to be, or is it better left in the dust?  Tune in and find out!

In this month's episode, Rich (singlebanana) and Shawn (GrayGhost81) get into the groove as they peck and flick their styluses to the beat of two Nintendo DS rhythm games, Elite Beat Agents & Rhythm Heaven. These two very Japanese-esque titles are very fun and quirky, but couldn't be more different in terms of gameplay, sound, and art styles.  Which of these games did the guys prefer over the other? Who couldn't even finish the first stage of Rhythm Heaven? And whose frustrations made them murder their couch with a stylus? Tune in and fine out!

Also, be sure to check out the Concertcast this month where we discuss our favorite soundtracks primarily recorded by a single artist or band.

In this episode, Rich (singlebanana) and Shawn (GrayGhost81) are joined by their good friend, Crabmaster2000 from the Collectorcast. There's murder in the air, and boys must dust off their detective hats and put their wits to the test to survive Hope's Peak Academy and Jabberwock Island in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy HavocDanganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. The guys discuss the ins and outs of these "gamey" visual novels and determine whether or not they are worth your time. Which of these two titles was their favorite? Who has never eaten a Twinkie?  And who is really creeped out by Orel Hershiser? Instead of chugging Snuggle, be sure to give this episode a try.

In gametalk, the boys discuss the gameplay, mechanics, graphics, and music, and determine if either of these games are worth the price they command. How do these 3-D polygonal beat 'em ups compare to their 2-D predecessors? The answer to this question and may more in this episode of the RF Generation Playcast.

Last month, we joined our friends from the Cartridge Club in a dual site playthrough of Journey on the PS3 and PS4.  In this episode of the RF Generation Playcast, hosts Rich (singlebanana), Shawn (GrayGhost81), brothers P1 and P2 (Cartridge Club), and Jake from the Polykill podcast as we discuss this short, but deeply moving effort from thatgamecompany. In this episode, we discuss the game's mechanics (or lack therefore), the story, the game's use of color and music, and what effect our individual playthroughs had on us.  What peculiar organ did Rich believe he was tracking towards?  How did Shawn's second playthrough compare to his original from years ago? Why would Ghandi have loved playing this game? And out of the five of us, who has the biggest scarf? The answers to these questions and many more in this month's episode of the RF Generation Playcast. You won't want to miss it!

The end of summer is upon us and the temperature will soon be beginning to cool down. However, this latter part of the summer has been a real heat wave in terms of submissions, in fact, they've been better than ever!  If July was a "scorcher," then August might be deemed "molten lava hot." During last month, we increased our impressive July effort of 5,272 submissions, to 5,867!!! That is an incredible feat and we appreciate all of you who contributed to this effort.  The submissions for August included 5,784 game submissions (4,035 of which were images) and 83 hardware submissions. Top contributors for the month of August include:

Our top submitters (those with a minimum of 100) for August were:
FatherJack             4,439   (Holy Schnike!)
Schlibby                  469
Sauza12                  160
Raido                       103

Another amazing month guys!!!

Top approvers for the month included:
Tynstar                    4,067
Shadow Kisuragi    609

Our members from "across the pond" had another very impressive month. Amazing work, please keep those submissions coming! Thanks to everyone who submitted or approved submissions this month. We wouldn't have such a wonderful site without your efforts.

If you thought July was action-packed, wait until you see what we have in store for you in August. Get ready for another great month of community adventure as the RF Generation Playthrough Group takes you to Slumberland and Dubai, two once peaceful areas that are now stricken with unrest. Join us as Fleach moves over to the retro side and hosts a very unique, action-platformer on the NES, Little Nemo: The Dream Master. This title was voted on by the community and we hope that you will join us in playing this classic.  Disposed Hero hops over to the modern side this upcoming month to host Spec Ops: The Line, a 3rd person shooter with an emphasis on squad tactics and cover. While the game is little talked about, it has an extremely compelling story and won several industry awards, including Best Narrative at Machinima's Inside Gaming Awards.

This June, join Disposed Hero and singlebanana as we ratchet up the action with the Capcom classics, Mega Man 2 & 3 (NES/3DSVC & the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for GC/PS2/XBox) for the retro playthrough.  On the modern side, fill your hands for an all out assault to save the galaxy in the original Mass Effect (360/PS3/PSN/Steam/PC) with your hosts Fleach and GrayGhost81.

It's that time of the month again! No, not that time, the good time where we thank all those awesome members of our wonderful little site that have helped to grow our most prized possession, the Database!

I'll start off thanking some names I didn't recognize, though they have been around the site since 2013, so thanks amprice5474 and josulli3 for becoming active and making over 100 submissions. And then there's a couple regulars, CoinCollector, Furnessly, and Sauza12 who also each made over 100 submissions. But the real butt-kickers in August were Shadow Kisuragi with over 500 submissions, ae.tc with over 700 submissions and ApolloBoy with nearly 1000 submissions. Thanks to all of you and everyone else who made a submission in August.

But we can't forget about our awesome staff members who work tirelessly to make sure all those submissions are being reviewed and approved. Izret101 and Tynstar each had almost 300 approvals. ApolloBoy had almost 800 and Shadow Kisuragi had almost 1000 approvals. Thanks guys for keeping the gears of the RFGen running smoothly and getting those submissions taken care of.
