Happy New Year everyone! I think 2016 was a great year for gaming - of the 30+ games I played that released last year some were great, most were enjoyable in some way, and few were disappointing. My top 10 list runs the gamut from first person shooters, to rhythm games, to small narrative exploration games. I think gaming is in a good spot right now. We have such a wide variety of games that there's something for everyone, and indie titles are really offering up special gaming experiences.

Watch the video to find out my top 10.

I'm sorry (not so sorry) to say that what you are about to hear is not the Illuision of Gaia playthrough podcast that you might have been anticipating.  No worries though, that will be available for your listening pleasure in just a few more days.  In the meantime, we hope that you enjoy this special recording that the guys and I did for E3 2016.  After watching the pressers and some of the trailers surrounding this year's event, the guys and I kept going back and forth texting about games and other things that interested us about the event.  Finally, we just decided, why not just set a time, switch on the mics, and talk candidly about our experience and the releases that we are looking forward to?  We sincerely hope that you enjoy our take on the event and items presented over that week, and if feedback is positive, we may consider more sidecasts like this in the future.  Thanks for listening!

For our June Community Playthrough, we will be playing the often overlooked hidden gem for the Super NES, Illusion of Gaia!  This title (known in PAL regions as Illusion of Time) is an action RPG whose gameplay can most likely be compared to such other SNES classics as Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore, and has also drawn comparisons to the classic Legend of Zelda games.  However, this game features a unique leveling system that eschews experience points in favor of a permanent stat bonus every time you clear an area of enemies.

In Illusion of Gaia, you play as Will, a young boy from a small seaside town.  He accompanies his father on an expedition to uncover the secrets of the Tower of Babel, but the explorers instead met with a mysterious disaster.  Will, the only known survivor of this expedition, manages to make it back to his hometown, although he does not remember how.  Now, a year later, a mysterious being known as Gaia tells him that he must leave his home to save the world from a coming evil.  Perhaps you may also finally discover the truth behind the ill-fated expedition along the way?

Illusion of Gaia will take you on an epic journey across many real-world, historical locations, including ancient Incan ruins and the Great Wall of China.  Armed with only a flute, you will have to defeat many enemies and epic bosses, solve puzzles, and harness the powers that Will gains along the way.   Will you be able to save the world from its impending doom? Join us this June for what will be a playthrough of epic proportions and give it a shot!

We had yet another great month of submissions in April and cracked the 5K mark with a total of 5,078! Last month's total submissions included 4,765 games and 313 hardware items added to our growing database. A whopping 2,462 of these submissions were images, which have really helped to brighten up our site. Thanks to everyone who submitted last month and we are looking forward to some extraordinary numbers in May with our "Pain Yourself With Submissions" contest. What?? You haven't started submitting yet?  Well, what are you waiting for?  The contest is underway right now and there is plenty of time to catch up and overtake the leaders. Here's a link to the official rules: http://www.rfgeneration.c...ons-Contest-2016-3286.php

Before I go into the submission and approval results for April, I'd like to recognize a few site members who were recently promoted.  Blog writer, bombatomba has recently accepted a position as the Assistant Editor for the front page. Don't worry, you will still be able to read his fantastic articles every month, but he will also assist with maintaining and editing the front page.  Along with bomba, our writing staff is also happy to welcome vlogger Pam into the fold. Pam runs the YouTube channel, Cannot Be Tamed where she produces high-quality, entertaining game reviews and other game-related videos that I know our members will enjoy. We are very happy to have her as a site member and her content on our front page. Congratulations to you both, we all look forward to your products!

Please note that the writing staff is still taking applications for writing positions, but there are only a few days left. See application rules here: http://www.rfgeneration.c...Call-For-Writers-3280.php

Now, on with this months top contributors!

We have seen a nice increase in the number of participants in our monthly playthroughs and the forums have been buzzing with activity lately.  We hope that all of you who participated in March enjoyed Life is Strange and those of you who are joining us now are having a good time with the classic RPGs Ys: Books I & II.  The past year has been a lot of fun for the hosts and we would all like to thank you for your continued support and dedication to the playthroughs.

Next month, we are tackling a title that falls on both sides of the spectrum as it is a multiple award winner and best-seller, but also a game that was controversial for its time.  The publisher Rockstar Games (creators of the Grand Theft Auto series, is no stranger to controversy.  However, with Bully, Rockstar took the fight off of the streets and into the classroom.

Sorry...couldn't resist one more

We had another great month of submissions in March a total of 4,540! Total submissions included 4,438 games and 102 hardware items added to our growing database. We had another strong effort from our international members and it's very nice to see our database and site becoming more diverse. Thanks to all of you who put forth such a good effort to help make the site an even more valuable tool for collectors.

Before I go into the submission and approval results from March, I'd like to recognize a few of our site members who were promoted last month.  Two of our international members, FatherJack and schlibby have accepted offers to join our database staff as DB Reviewers. Their outstanding efforts in growing our database over the last several months have been phenomenal and their knowledge will continue to help improve the information associated with our international submissions. Congratulations guys and welcome as full-time members of our staff!

I'd also like to mention that our outstandingly witty and handsome, editor-in-chief, singlebanana has been promoted to Site Director. No need to fear, he will still be handling all front page duties for your viewing pleasure and keeping you up-to-date with all the latest site news. If you see him around the office, please offer him your congratulations, but please remember to not become enchanted by his dashingly good looks and stare at him for too long. It makes him quite uncomfortable.

Now, on with this months top contributors!

GREAT Again!

Good morning, fellow RF Gentlemen! Thank you for attending my rally on this beautiful April day. I hope we'll have many more days like this ahead. There's no greater collecting site for video game enthusiasts anywhere on the internets, really! It's true! It really is. But there have been many signs of a decline in the last few years, which is why I'm campaigning to become this fine institution's illustrious leader. You see, I have a YUUUUGE plan, a GREAT plan-- really, it's great, it really is-- to put RF Generation back on the top of the vidya heap!  I have eight points that I will pursue when I claim my rightful fuhrerdom leadership:
