Now that tickets are on sale for the RetroWorld Expo (https://retroworldexpo.com/tickets/) we need to focus on booking the best selection of Exhibitors that we can.  It sounds easy, right?  Get together a great big list of all of the best video game, comic, tabletop etc, stores in the area and let them know what we are all about.  But, as a group of retro enthusiasts who attend these kinds of events, we wanted to broaden the scope a bit.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with an Expo full of video game stores.  Every collector and enthusiast has a handful of favorite spots that they stop by on a regular basis.  But game stores aren't the only places where we buy our games, so we want to make sure we are representing some of those other segments.  Here is a sneak peak of what you can expect to find at Retro World.

Video Game Stores
I know we've already mentioned these guys, but they are the lifeblood of many of the regular events that gamers in the area attend.  Retro Games Plus is the first retail location to secure a booth at Retro World.  There are another half dozen or so retro game stores that we have been in contact with, so we hope to have more to announce very soon.

Artists and Crafters
This isn't really a new segment as much as one that has become more prevalent in recent years.  With the growing popularity of sites like Etsy, artists and crafters have no shortage of customers looking for interesting and unique handmade items.  RFGeneration's very own Russlyman will be at RetroWorld in full force.  Not only will you get to browse his (and other crafters) wares, but you will get to see his amazing vehicle  in person!

The following is a small sample of Russ' work:

And this is is car, you are not going to want to miss is.  It's more impressive up close.

Flea Market Sellers
YES!  We are scouring the flea markets of New England and inviting the best Flea Market sellers that we can find.  If any of the people planning on attending RetroWorld are like us, they can't wait to hit up their local flea market every weekend during the warmer months and we want you to have that same experience at our event.  If you have a favorite Flea Market seller that you don't see on our list of Exhibitors when the Flea season starts, direct them to our website and we will do our best to convince them to participate.

Tabletop Games
Some still use the term "board games" but tabletop is inclusive of everything played on a table, not just the games with boards.  We are currently in talks with several excellent tabletop gaming stores and, depending on the interest level of attendees, we will have an area of tables dedicated to freeplay tabletop gaming.  We will have more details to announce soon, but if you are a fan of tabletop gaming, please let us know so that we can make sure that you aren't left out.

Anyone else have a closet that looks like this?

Merchandise
Who doesn't like a huge selection of awesome gaming t-shirts, mugs, any anything else to spend this month's rent check on?  Expect to see a wide selection of merchandise from a handful of great merchandisers.

Besides the indoor guests, we have also confirmed at least one food truck outside of the Oakdale for the duration of the event.  The more culinary options we can provide, the better.  We are going to see just how many food trucks we are allowed to invite and that is the number of food trucks that will be there.

Did we miss anything?
If there is a type of exhibitor that we are missing, please let us know.  Also, if you have a favorite store, seller, hangout spot, Craigslist contact, ANYONE you would like to be at RetroWord, either let us know via email or direct that awesome person and/or businiess to our website.  http://retroworldexpo.com/exhibitors/

See you in October!

Any consideration given to toy vendors? I know that there are a lot of toys out there that are video game based and some others have a love of retro toys. I think this might be something cool for your audience.

Another idea is to get in touch with vendors who sell parts and other merchandise for arcade and pinball machines and gameroom stuff in general. There are a few out there and some in the Pennsylvania area that may consider traveling if they think it worth their time.

I considered something like vinyl as well, but I think this may be a bit out of scope.

Glad to hear that you're going to have a tabletop presence. So many great games these days and a lot of crossover with video gamers. Great idea.

And I agree with Rich that Toys would fit in quite well.

What about music? Any chip tunes artist or video game cover bands in your state? Would be a great way for them to sell some CDs and T-Shirts I'd imagine.

Toy vendors will most definitely be invited to the Expo.  We don't have any solid leads with anyone specializing in toys just yet but we are looking.  Many game stores like Retro Games Plus also carry action figures, Legos, McFarlane figures, etc so we figured there would be some overlap there, but if we can find a solid toy vendor, they will most definitely be welcome.

Music will be covered in a future blog post.  We are in talks with over a dozen bands right now including chiptunes and video game cover bands.  As soon as the acts are official, I will share them.

Like many of the people who visit this site, I am a lifelong gamer who loves and appreciates classic gaming as well as the current generation. When I started collecting games, I realized that some of the stories of my collecting might be interesting, educational, or just plain funny. The stories that I share here are meant to entertain as well as inform and they are all 100% true, which is why I include pictures.
