The AbyssThe Abyss

Poor Circuit City, relic of the Eighties. You had your streak of amazingly depressing dark stores and creepy atmosphere, but then Best Buy came along and now things are just terrible for you. You've tried really hard to rescue yourself from sinking ever farther into the abyss. Your new stores feel like in many ways of copy of old Best Buy stores. Always trying to catch nowadays, aren't you? Well, it sounds as though things are not going your way anymore.

Circuit City isn't exactly profitable anymore. Hemorrhaging money is a good way to describe their current situation. Let's just say it is bad, really bad. It's bad enough where investors are expecting a bankruptcy declaration next week, and the NYSE is ready to delist them. Well, that just seems bad, doesn't it. Well, it seems as though things are going to get much, much worse.

Sony, you know, the people that do the PlayStation 3 (nee PLAYSTATION 3), have decided to abort shipments to Circuit City distribution centers while the shipments were in transit.  They are afraid that Circuit City will not be able to make payment on those shipments, so... no new Sony Shipments for Circuit City. So, if you need a big box store to buy your Sony crap from, might want to try Best Buy from now on.

Why is this such a big deal? Because apparently several companies are waiting for one company to stop shipments so that they as well can stop shipments. If that is truly the case, then the road to bankruptcy is coming to its destination very, very soon. Stay tuned to that! You might get some amazing deals!

That's too bad, I've always had good experiences with Circuit City and their customer service. I never liked Best Buy, they just seem too big and unfriendly, CC always seemed a little closer to the "neighborhood electronics store".

@NES_Rules: Opposite for me. Maybe it's just local management but the Best Buys I frequent are always swarming with employees ready to suck my dick for anything. The BB employees are often less educated about a product then they should be, but in comparison to local CCs, where all the employees seem to always be hiding, Best Buy is wonderful.

Local Circuit Cities have been ghostowns for several years. I only give them business when something is sold out everywhere else.

I've always hated circuit city...

I've always hated best Buy... Like CC much better!

I'm kinda "meh" on this.  I've liked both for different reasons, and both are across the street from each other near me, so it wasn't to hard to get what I wanted Tongue

Well, I can almost say good riddance.  CC hasn't treated me so well.

Whenever they have something listed in their weekly ad, I can go all the way out to the nearest one half an hour away and they'll be sold out.  In fact, they're usually sold out of a lot of things, even non-sale items.

Additionally, I once pre-ordered Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker from them because they were offering the Ocarina of Time disc if you did (and I didn't have OoT at the time)... so when the game came out I tried to get my games and they didn't have any.  It took me two months to get my copy of Wind Waker and an additional three months and several angry phone calls to get my Ocarina of Time, because they tried to say that I didn't get a copy of OoT for pre-ordering from them even though their offer clearly stated that I did.
(The trouble was worth it, though.)

Sweet cheap games I hope!

I can't say I really like this. Circuit City may have given different results to different people (I personally haven't had a problem with them) but they offered solid competition to Best Buy. Whenever companies start to fold and competition starts to die down, bad things ussually happen. Look at Madden games...granted I realize it's not nearly at the same level, but still...look at Madden.

@Wolfman Walt:I agree.

I wonder if this means that The Scource By Circuit City stores in Canada are going tits up as well.

@marvelus10:

I'm indifferent towards them myself. When they bought RadioShack Canada and changed them all into "The Source by Circuit City", RadioShack wasn't as good a source for electronics as they were say 10 years ago anyway nor did they have a good selection of parts for DIY'ers anymore, so nothing really changed. Tongue

well, it is getting bad for them. they announced that 155 stores were going to be closed soon.

Wow...

Yeah they filed bankruptcy today I think. =[ what a shame.

Yeah, they did.... how sad.

I filled out a application to work there the day before they made the announcement.

I then laughed about it.

The one down the road from me isn't closing not really surprised though they do a good deal of business.

Loved their black friday deals. Other than that i don't really buy much from there.
Prefer Best Buy :-P

Alright, so when does the cheap merchandise start?
