I'm sure you've seen the classic video of the kid who gets way too excited over his new Nintendo 64 he got for Christmas. If you haven't, what the hell are you doing on the internet? GO WATCH IT NOW!
Anyways, the excited kid getting a video game console for Christmas video has finally made the next gen leap to the Playstation 3. Or as they might say: OH MY GAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWD PLAYSTATION THREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! Watch the video below...
Now, I don't know which excited kid is better. The N64 kid getting excited over an old system with arguably few great games or the PS3 kid getting excited over a new system with arguably few great games. Regardless, this calls for a comparison. CUE UP THE HTML TABLES PLEASE... (After the break...)
COMPARISON
NINTENDO 64 KID
PLAYSTATION 3 KID
JUDGMENT
The Setup
Nothing really. The N64 is wrapped with no frills, nothing special. We know nothing of the backstory.
This takes a slightly different approach. We know the backstory now. His sister got a PS3 game and his parents acted like they screwed up and got the game for the wrong system. Then after that, the sister gets a Sixaxis controller. I also like that the parents put the PS3 inside another box because it added to the suspense and mystery.
Point: PS3 kid. Since we don't know much about what happened before the N64 kid opened his present and it's just plainly wrapped, there isn't any suspense to build up to the reaction.
Inital Reaction
Classic. NINTENDO SIXTY FOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUR! Everyone knows that. It's simple, to the point, and above all, VERY LOUD.
Not quite as drawn out as the classic N64 kid, but a very solid effort. the reaction is in the classic N64 kid style, but it doesn't quite work the same.
Point: N64 kid. He totally brought more to the field than the PS3 kid in the volume department and sustained that first reaction longer. Nice effort Nigel, but you just can't match the N64 kid.
Post Reaction
Screaming, screaming, and more screaming. Also fist pumping.
A lot of screaming, then it dies down fairly quickly (the whole reaction is less than a minute long). Even at the end of the video the kids are like, "Let's open this one now." ADD much? Enjoy your new socks, kid.
Point: It's a tough call, but I'm going to have to give it to the N64 kid. The lengths of the reactions are about the same, but the N64 kid and his sister keeps the energy level up longer than the PS3 kid did.
Showing Off
Fist pumping and yelling "YES!"
Tries to lift the PS3 over his head like Link, but collapses due to the tremendous weight of the PS3.
Point: While I laughed a good amount at the PS3 kid trying to lift the system, the N64 kid wins. You can tell he's way more pumped up about his sytem.
Overlooked Aspects
There isn't much overlooked material here. The most underlooked aspect of the video is the N64 kid opening the RC car right after the N64 and saying "Oh, an RC car..." That's fine and dandy, but follow it up kid. You can't just be like John Romero and idly make promises but never follow through. Not a great comparison, but still.
I don't know if it's due to the length, but there's way more to look for in this video.
OK, first you have the sister getting Lego Star Wars for PS3. I kinda chuckled when Nigel said "Game Boy?" and "We don't HAVE a Playstation One." Where did those two lines come from?
The most underrated part of this video is the reaction Nigel gets when opening Transformers The Video Game. I actually laughed a pretty good amount there. And the follow up line of "SWEET LORD!" from the dad and "YOU GET TO BE GIANT ROBOTS!" from the kid makes it awesome.
The sister turning into a raptor. It's something I rarely see mentioned in the YouTube comments on the video (or at PS3Fanboy, where I found this article), yet it is the subject of the first "fan edit" of the original video. A stunning feat for someone who isn't even the main character of the video.
The sister putting the box over her head and saying "I can't see it anymore."
The use of the word "bigun".
Point: Hands down, PS3 kid. His video has way more aspects that are often forgotten by others, and those aspects are all rather strong. Strong enough to hold up against the all-out onslaught of the N64 kid? You decide.

N64 Kid! It's just too classic.
Both videos are great, but what's ridiculous is if you look at the comments on YouTube or the article on Digg, you'll see people trying to turn this into a console war thing. Don't you just love this generation of consoles?
I like how you went into an in-depth analysis of each video.
I also like the dad's sarcastic "Sweet Lord."
