The 90s: Nintendo and Sega are tearing each other's throats out in the biggest Console War in history, while NEC's TurboGrafx-16 fades into obscurity.
Today: NEC's TurboGrafx-16 is a collector's item for hardcore gamers.
Then again, isn't that the case with most older consoles? Heh. Anyway, here's the story of my (failed) attempt to get a TurboGrafx-16.
.....Okay, there's no real story behind this one, I'm afraid. The only story here is that I've never been able to get one, US or JP because they're expensive. Even though I came into some money recently, all of them on eBay are out of my price range/missing stuff/broken.
Anyway, the point of this post, is to ask this: Does ANYBODY have a working one with a Controller and all the hook-ups? If you do, PM me, post in my Sales Thread, or leave a comment here.
Sorry for this entry, but I HAD to ask.

I wouldn't think it would be hard to find a working system, just a working system with a working controller. I've seen so many broken T-16 controllers over the years it makes me sick. In all cases that I've seen, the controller either mysteriously breaks (no visible damage) or the plug breaks in some way. Just wait until you start trying to get a TG16 CD. It broke my heart the day the drive on my CD died.

Have they spiked in price or something? Last year you could get one like your asking for $30-$50 quite easily.

Why yes, as a matter of fact I do. It even has the TG-CD unit locked-on and everything.
I also have the turbo arcade stick, multitap, and hard shell carrying case.
Thanks for the reminder...

That's pretty much what happened to the controller I got with the setup. I eventually tracked down a couple replacements, but who knows how long they'll hold up...

Although mine's still working right, there is something rattling around in the console that's making me a bit worrisome.

@Zagnorch:
Look, don't get my hopes up for nothing. It's not funny.
|
@ReddMcKnight: You did leave yourself open for that one. You didn't specify if someone had one available for sale.
If someone needs a working TG-16 controller, I can arrange for it. A local PnT has 4 or 5 for sale, since someone traded in a couple TG-16 consoles with extra controllers and the consoles sold online.
Also, Crabmaster, I know we've discussed this before but TG-16 is cheap and easily available in your area for some reason. In Florida, the consoles sell for $80-$100 for just the console, controller, and Keith Courage.

@Shadow Kisuragi:
Aw, crap. Looks like I did leave myself open that time. Oops...Sorry Zagnorch...
Anyway, if anyone has one for sale, please let me know.
Also, Shadow Kisuragi, how much are those controllers?

@ReddMcKnight:
I just felt like ribbin' ya a little. Nothing mean-spirited was intended--just braggin' a bit.
In fact, I should thank you for reminding me of it-- I've been neglecting the thing lately.
Fair warning: if you want to play with friends, you'll need a multitap, since the TG-16 only sports one controller socket.
|
@ReddMcKnight: $10, if I remember correctly. I'll verify next time in the shop this weekend, which I'll also need to verify CIB 32X games.
