Ah, the People of Gaming. Where would we be without them? Probably not as far as we are now. Today, I present to you a list of the most influential people in gaming (at least, in my opinion). Here they are:
Nolan Bushnell: The Father of Gaming
This legendary figure is known as Nolan Bushnell. He founded Atari, Inc. in 1972 after creating Pong, which is popularly known as the First Video Game Ever. Even though he was fired by his own company some time later, he accomplished much in his time there, effectively making him the very Father of Gaming. A fun fact, he also founded Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza.
Shigeru Miyamoto: The Savior of Gaming
Shigeru Miyamoto is a name that every gamer, old and new, should know. Taught the art of the game by Gunpei Yokoi, he created Donkey Kong and Super Mario. Bros., both of which helped revitalize the Gaming Industry when it was on the brink of death. Like Nolan Bushnell, he is now a legend in the Gaming Industry. He is Nintendo's most respected game developer, having proved himself many times to them.
Hideo Kojima: The Storyteller of Gaming
Hideo Kojima is the writer of many deep, amazing, and just plain awesome Video Game Stories. These include Policenauts, Snatcher, and Metal Gear Solid. Without question, there is no one in the industry that can tell a better story. Metal Gear Solid 3 (and 4) will bring tears to your eyes, a smile to your face, and find a place in your heart as truly great stories.
Trip Hawkins: The Dreamer of Gaming
Trip Hawkins is the founder of EA and the creator of the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer Console. Although he had good ideas, and created an innovative console, his high asking price for the thing led to it's ultimate downfall. Even so, he could be described as the man who truly did CD Based Video Games right for the first time. Founding a big company like EA isn't bad either.
Billy Mitchell: The Greatest in Gaming
Okay, so Billy Mitchell isn't a developer, but he is a damn good gamer. Achieving the highest of scores in multiple games is one thing, but being the first gamer to achieve a perfect score in Pac-Man is truly amazing, considering the last level is one big glitch. Although there's little to be said here, he deserves some serious credit.
Well, that's it for now. I hope you enjoyed reading this!
Shigeru Miyamoto also created Pikmin, and The Legend of Zelda he also created alot more games. He was also the chief designer of Nintendo's Touch! Generation console series, which includes the Nintendo DS, Wii, and 3DS.
Hideo Kojima. If i have never played MGS I would of only read that he is a great story teller and left it at that. But he is beyond the defianition of a great story tellers. Not many people go that indept into a Video Game story. Those games would transition over to a movie very well and would be absolutely amazing. The closest thing they have to a movie for the MGS is Excape from Newyork. Hideo is actually a huge american action movie fan and bases alot of his characters names off of characters from that movie.
Billy Mitchell is good but he is a complete dick. One cocky SOB. I always hated the guy and really have no respect for him but after watching the Documentary King Vs Kong which is a amazing documentary I really lost alot more respect for him.
|
FWIW, the King of Kong documentary was fairly biased against him. While he is extremely cocky and can be a complete dick, he's not as bad as the documentary portrays him to be.
|
Interesting choices to be sure. I would have given more than a passing mention to Gumpei Yokoi, without whom Nintendo would have had a much more difficult time in cost effective hardware.
I'd also a huge nod to Hiroshi Yamauchi. This man's business savvy single handedly brought Japanese games to the top in the world. His tactics near monopolized the US market during the NES era, and I think it could be safely said that Nintendo wouldn't be anything today without him.
|
I agree that they prob did it so you felt more for the guy going for the record but even in other videos not related to that he is just a dick lol
|
@Duke.Togo: I think Nintendo would still be around, maybe not in the video game industry but they would still be around. They have did alot of stuff over they years and have been around since the 1800's I think they would of been back to playing cards or something
|
@Tadpole13:Hideki Konno was the chief designer for the 3DS.

Great article as always, Redd.
I never understood people's fascination with Hideo Kojima as a storyteller. I do] love the first MGS, but I don't think I can really point at any other of his games and really point out a games story that I thought was outstanding. Granted, this is personal opinion, but...
Anyone who hasn't done so should really read David Sheff's book Game Over: How Nintendo Conquered the World. It is a must for Nintendo fans (and members of the RF "Nintendo" generation). Plus, you really get a sense of just how important Yamauchi was to the success of the the post-Atari console world. Basically, with no Yamauchi there would have been no Nintendo. I wish I could have bought stock in that guys instincts during his prime.

My Fav MGS solid was the 2nd one. I am prob a little bias towards it thoe because it is the first one I played so I will always hold it up there in fav games. All of them had amazing stories. I will admit I never really messed around with the psp that much so I dont know to much about them but the 4 I played on consoles where great. I really do not read but I would love some good books about the video game industrie like the one you mentioned so if you guys can message me some other books maybe I will look into make a order online for a batch of books
