July was a good month to be a Dreamcast fan. A new indie game, a classic standby, and some other goodies made this month all worthwhile.
NG.DEV Team's new game GunLord finally shipped, and they really know how to put together a package! The "Dragon Box" Collector's edition includes BOTH the regular and limited edition packages, as well as 4 bookmarks, a postcard, and 3 posters (not pictured). What is stunning about this game is that it features the work of
Genzoman, of Udon Crew fame. The package art is bursting with color everywhere you look.
I have a minor confession to make. My LIVE gold account expired two months ago... and I hardly care. To show the system a little love, I grabbed Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Child of Eden, and a snazzy lanyard from E3 2012. It features artwork from Jet Set Radio, which is coming out on XBLA in October.
"Sega's game is number ooone in the world!" Basically it's a manga featuring Doricasko-chan trying to motivate the other aging Sega consoles to take on the new generation.
I present proof that the Dreamcast is the greatest system ever. You don't see a whole lot of doujin (fan-made works) for other systems do you? Well, here it is. Proof that Sega's game system IS the greatest... or at least DC fans are delusional? What's your take on it?
Things are just getting warmed up. Dreamcast Express was a series of free video/game demos distributed to members of the "Sega Partner's Club". The videos are a rare treat and offer a peek into Japan's side of the Dreamcast mania. The vol.1 disc features
this video. Vol.4 is also a special TGS edition where they walk you around the booths, and you can interact with the kiosks to view the demos.
Treamcast, the travelling Dreamcast. Collectors typically turn their nose up at Chinese pirate consoles, but this one gets reverse treatment. The Treamcast is generally sought after because of it's (relatively) portable screen attachment. It's also hard modded to be region free. The black model is the 3rd and final model produced by the Treamcast team because Sega shut them down. In general, it has the most reliable screen and the most limited production numbers, making it the most sought after of the three models.
I played this one through two 9-hour car rides recently, and I'll say that having a fully functional home console on-the-go is a real luxury.
That's about all for July. August is already shaping up to be a monster month. Here's a small group from the first bunch of games that came in. I should also mention... why don't they include football manuals in with American sports games? I watch dozens of games every year, yet I'm always worthless when it comes to video football. Anyways, the NFL 2K1 "Bible" is a smart move, Sega.
