Good news everyone! The drought is over, and even though it wasn't broken by a monsoon of deals, its still a break, and for that, I'm happy. The deals I got this past week were a little above "average" for me, but compared to what its been like for the past 4 weeks, it feels like some amazing deals. And not only is that great news, but my GameGavel auctions are doing better than ever, despite all of last week's auctions being relists. The Genesis lot that didn't sell for $10, is now bid up to $20 for example, which is still a great deal IMO. Be sure to check out that auction and the others right HERE Check this one for one of my favorite finds of the year. I almost didn't buy this, because I didn't see it. But luckily, the neighbor was also having a garage sale, so I actually had to step over this guy to take a short cut across the yards. At first I thought, "that's one ugly monkey" then I thought "wait, that looks familiar" then I notice the large "Donkey Kong" logo on his chest. Sure enough, it is Donkey Kong, the 1982 version to be exact. I don't know if you guys can tell from the picture, but he's about 24" tall, making him the largest plush I have now. I looked on ebay and Google to get an idea of the value on this guy, but the closest one I saw was 6" and listed for $25-50. Anyone have an idea of the real value of this? I know its worth more than the $0.25 I paid for it!
Found these at another sale, the GBC games were marked $0.25 each, and Mojo was $2. At first, I wasn't too interested in the GBC games since they're not exactly titles I'd play, but then I came to my senses and realized that they were $0.25 and in excellent shape. The Mojo game is in unbelievable nice condition, its a blue bottom disc and looks absolutely brand new, I was shocked when I looked at it. I ended up paying $2 for everything, I was going to offer $3, but decided on $2 instead, thinking she'd come back with $2.50, but she accepted my $2 offer.
And finally, the cherry on the sundae. I got these within the city limits of Youngstown, an area I normally don't like to go to, since its the kind of area where if you park too long, your car will be stolen, but it was still "early" in the morning, so we felt it was safe enough. I wish I could say the place and people there were better than expected, but they were typical city white trash, complete with crack eyes and as many teeth as a one year old. Anyway, enough about the locals. I originally started flipping through the games and wasn't seeing much good stuff, but spotted a few, so I asked for a price. One woman said "I don't know, a dollar or two" I think I'll take the one dollar option. But then a little girl starts saying they're two for a dollar. Even better. So I count the games and come up with around $30, so I offered $10 for everything since I don't count common consoles in lots like this. She came back with $15. I thought for a second and realized it wasn't what I wanted, but still a steal, so I paid the $15. I'm sure my crisp $20 bill went around the local economy pretty quick that night. It even ended up being better than I originally though, the games in the bottom two rows were new titles for me, which is pretty good for a lot like this. The controllers are bad though, the purple has a completely broken stick and the red one has a pretty loose one, I haven't tested them beyond that yet though. Look for this lot on GameGavel next week, starting of course, at $15.

That Donkey Kong plush is awesome! It looks like it's in pretty amazing condition too. Great find.

Scooby-Doo Classic Creep Capers is one of the biggest hidden gems on GBC, man. Do you like Maniac Mansion???

Hey! My father in law is from Youngstown! ...he moved away almost 30 years ago though, and I'm sure he'd say the same as you if he still lived there.
Nice find on the plush, and as noise mentioned, the Scooby-Doo GBC game is awesome.

Awesome score on Beast Wars! I've been looking for that one for a while.

That Donkey King is awesome!

@e4g: It was a little dirty on the face and hands, but other than that its in near perfect condition, no rips or tears at all. The tag is somewhat faded, but still readable.
@noiseredux: I'll have to check it out. I do remember you doing a write up about it a while back now that you mention it.
@Shadow Kisuragi: Let me guess, he left when the steel mills closed? He hasn't missed much over the years, the city went straight down the toilet, and has only recently started to improve a tiny bit.

I live close to Youngstown I dont venture there that much either.
|
@NES_Rules: No clue exactly when he left, but they came to Florida for better weather. At least it was worth the venture there.

I can't believe the previous owner of that console subjected themselves to the punishment of Superman 64.
Not even being high on meth is a valid excuse for playing that game.
|
@SirPsycho: I play horrible games for the sheer enjoyment of the experience, and I'm not on any drugs. I just find it hilarious, and it gives me a better appreciation for great games
