2009 was another great year for treasure hunting and for adding to my collection. Overall, I added over 400 new titles to my collection and even managed to sell a few duplicates. If you want to see every thing I bought or traded for this year, you can go here but I doubt very many of you want to do that, so below is my top ten favorite deals of the year. But before we go there, there is one last treasure of the year. This is a hodgepodge of games that my dad actually picked up for me that last couple weeks of the season I didn't go game hunting. He picked them up one or two at a time for next to nothing. He won't tell me what they cost but if he bought them without asking me, they must have been really cheap.
Both PS2 games are missing the manuals. And neither is in great shape. The cartridges are all extras for me, so they are for sale or trade.
Now, the moment you haven't been waiting for, my top ten deals of the year. #1
These beauties came from the flea market from the same seller but two different weeks. The first group was 58 games for $80 and the second group was 28 games for $20. Most of the games are complete, only a few were missing the manuals. What made this my favorite deal of the year wasn't the fact that I got a bunch of complete NES games for just over $1 each, but because on the second lot, the seller counteracted my offer with an even lower offer.
#2
This pile of NES games came from a single garage sale. Just about everything about this deal was good, the games were mostly decent titles, they were mostly clean and in good shape and the price of $10 for everything was amazing.
#3#
I picked this fantastic piece of arcade history at a garage sale for $10. When I remodeled my game room,it was tough finding a place to hang it, but now that it is up, its one of my favorite decorations in the room.
#4
I bought this PS3 from my cousins because he was going to throw it away after the disc drive broke. I gave him $5 for it with the intent to get the drive fixed, but its been nearly 5 months and I still haven't had it fixed yet. Even if I haven't played it yet aside from some demos I downloaded, its still a pretty good deal.
#5
I grabbed this at a garage sale for $1. The best part of this is that its basically new. The box isn't sealed but everything in the box looked like it was never out the plastic baggies.
#6
This wonderfully diverse lot of Nintendo games and systems, only set me back $10. None of the games are really noteworthy on their own, my favorite part of this lot was the toploader NES, something that I was looking for since I first heard about it when I started collecting. To finally have the system in my collection was a major milestone.
#7
This lot was one of my favorites because even though most of the boxes in the picture are empty, I had the loose cartridges already so I was able to box several of my games and not have to worry about getting rid of duplicates. The price of $10 for everything was a pretty sweet deal too.
#8
This lot wasn't a favorite of mine because of the price or for what its worth, but instead of because of what all was in this lot. It's hard to tell from the picture but there was a ton of literature from the time, everything from game catalogs to programming books and magazines. I paid a little under $30 for it, which isn't the best price for the system itself, but I felt I had some kind of duty to make sure these documents were preserved for the future.
#9
I paid $10 for these three items at a garage sale and while the price was good, the main reason I included this here is because I've played these two games more than any other games I bought all year.
#10
I was ecstatic when I found this game in the bottom of a box of random toys and board games as my rarity guide I carry with me had it rated somewhat rare. It turned out to be not worth as much as I hoped but still a great deal.
But wait, that's not all. The following are some other deals I wanted to mention again even thought they didn't make the top ten list. Best Non-Video Game Deal
This was my favorite deal I got while game hunting that isn't directly game related. The receiver is a little old, but the speakers are newer and sounded great. Replacing my old set-up with this one was a huge pain in the rear, but now that it's done, I love it and use it every single day.

Thanks to all of you who have read and enjoy these articles in the past. The 2010 garage sale and flea market should get started sometime in April, with a couple chances before that being possible but not probable. So be sure to keep it tuned right here to Channel 4 for all the latest tales of treasure hunting in Northeast Ohio.

Your deals have been amazing this year. Here's to Twenty-Ten!
|
Your top 10 seems to be rather dominated by NES. I guess that should have been expected from "NES_Rules"
I loved checking your finds and being jealous. Looking forward to seeing what 2010 brings you

Man, I already forgot all about those, amazing deals!
|
Yep, even though winter slowed you down you still envied us... ¬_¬
I'm still jealous from that CDX Lot you got...
|
Nice lots! I can't wait to here what you get this year.
|
Yea man your finds are spectacular! Garage sales around here are horrible. I could spend all day going to sales in the Summer and not find anything!
|
@Izret101: I didn't even realize 5 of the 10 had something NES-related in them. NES games are my #1 target while hunting so it would make sense for me to find more of them.
@gamepopper101: I forgot about the CDX lot when I did this, if I had remembered, it probably would have made it to the top ten. It was an amazing deal.
|
You were pretty thrilled about your Vic-20s when you got them too if memory serves.
I'm in the same boat as Spoon. I went out several times and i think my best pick up last year was a CIB playstation a couple girl/kids games and a CIB racing wheel.
|
@Izret101: I was thrilled with the Vic-20s when I bought them, but that faded once I tried to sell them. Turns out I couldn't get much more for them than I paid, and I still have one I couldn't sell. I probably should have added it to the list as "most disappointing purchase".
|
Here's to some good deals in 2010!
|
The NES lots are my favorite, as I too look mainly for those when I'm hunting (outside of handheld stuff that is), though I must give a nod to the TI find, 'cuz that is a whole lotta paper to come with such a vintage computer.
|
Congratulations on the great finds, and I wish you the best of luck in 2010!
|
man I need to get on Garage sales.....So lucky to find so many CIB games for so cheap! we don't really have those in NYC
