This week wasn't spectacular in that I didn't have any really big finds, but instead, I had a lot of little finds, each one a great find in their own right. For once, my first treasure of the week didn't come from Friday, but on Thursday for a change. But I didn't get much garage saling in on Friday or Saturday and then I didn't go to the flea market on Sunday at all. The majority of my finds all come very early on Saturday this week.
This was my find from Thursday, I got it at a garage sale on the way back from a small flea market. They had a bunch of Xbox games marked $5 each, and miraculously, very few were sports titles, but none of them looked good or weren't CIB, so it was looking like a bust, but as I dug deeper in the box of games, an Xbox 360 game popped up, and then a couple more. Unfortunately, it was the same deal as the regular Xbox games and they were all bad games or weren't CIB, until I got to these two anyway. Not only are they both CIB, but GoW actually has an extra manual (although it is missing the cover). The controller was also sitting there with a $5 sticker on it, so I grabbed all three and made an offer for $10, which was accepted.
Saturday was a strange day for me, it started off really bad (dropping my cell phone into a bucket of water) to really good, and then up and down again all day long. This find was the beginning of what made the day good, 4 garage sales in a row where I got something. They had a few more N64 games, all marked $2 each, but the others were ones I had, so I left them. The SNES controller was $1, so I offered $2 for both, which was accepted.
These came from a sale almost right after the last one, the sale in between didn't have any game related items, but they had several free boxes, so I got a few things out of them. They had several more PSX games, but the rest were ones I had, weren't CIB, or weren't good games, so these were the only ones I bought. They were marked $2 each, so I offered $3 for both of them, which was accepted. It was kind of funny the games were reasonably priced because they had the cordless system for $35.
At the sale after this one, I bought a toy sweeper for my niece, so that made 4 sales in a row where I got something, which is very rare, especially for the first 4 sales of the day. I almost made it 5 sales in a row, as the sale after this one had kid's PS2 for $1.50 (which I undoubtedly could have had for $1) but it was missing the manual and the disc was scratched, so I passed on it.
After a fairly long dry spell, I found these at another sale, marked $1 each. The Team Play Football game is CIB and like new, I think it even had the original Sears brand battery in it (luckily, it didn't leak). The Digital Derby isn't CIB, but still in fairly good condition, although the batteries in it did leak, I should be able to clean it out as the corrosion isn't terribly bad.
When I bought these, I figured I would just sell them, but it seems the Digital Derby games isn't worth much, and I can't find the Team Play game on eBay, so I don't know what it's worth. So if anyone wants either, send me an offer on one or both of them and I'll know if I want to sell them or not.
These were marked $2 each, so I offered $2 for both of them. The woman accepted my offer, but I only had a $1 bill, a $5 bill and some twenties left, so I gave her the $5, but she didn't have any change. I have no idea how you can have a garage sale all day long and not have $3, but she did somehow. I tried getting them for the $1, but she wouldn't take it. So I checked my pocket to see if I had any other $1's and there 2 in my quarters pocket, so I handed her those. And then she said, "do you have another one, I'll take $3, but not $2" I thought about arguing about it since she already agreed on $2, but judging from the way she was talking/acting and her shaky hands, she was obviously high on something, and I knew I would lose any argument battle, so I just gave her my last dollar. Unfortunately, this wouldn't be the last crazy seller of the day.
I spotted this mixed in with some DVD, VHS tapes, and some books at a sale, none of which were priced so I asked for a price, and a woman goes off on a long speech about how this game is for GameCube but will also play on the Wii, I'm all for being helpful, but her explanation was really unnecessary, she finally said it was $2, so I offered $1, and she accepted. It's semi-CIB, as it's in a DVD case instead of a GCN case, but the the disc is in excellent shape.
These came from a sale I didn't even go to. My dad and I pulled up to the house, and there were only a couple of tables in the doorway of the garage, one full of artificial flowers, the other full of knick-knacks. So I didn't want to bother going up to the sale, but my dad did anyway. I could see he was smiling while walking back from the sale, and once he got back in the truck, he showed me what he got. He wouldn't tell me what they cost, but I didn't see him pay for them, so I think they were free, but after hours of him not telling me what he paid, he says they were $1, so I gave him the dollar for them, I still think they were free though.
This came out of a box full of newish fast food kid's meal toys, mostly all unopened marked $0.10 each. This was the only video game related one though. Luckily, I happened to have a dime on me, so I didn't have to get change back for a quarter, which is always a little weird.
Now, I mentioned crazy sellers before, so this is a little story of something I didn't buy. In the corner of a couple tables, there was a box on the ground and I could see it was a racing wheel box, I assumed it would be another PSX, N64, or PC wheel, but much to my surprise, it was for the Saturn, and it wasn't a 3rd party one either. I looked all over the box for a sticker, but couldn't find one, so I finally asked someone at the sale and a little old lady came over to look at it and kept asking me what it was, once she understood it was for video games, she asked a man (her son probably) if he knew how much it was, he didn't, so they asked me what I would pay for it, I said $1. The guy seemed to think that was a fair offer, but his daughter (maybe 12 or so) laughed at the offer. So he called his son to see what he wanted for it. The guy talked/yelled on the phone a good 15 minutes trying to tell the kid what it was (he practically read everything on the box before the kid knew what he was talking about). Meanwhile, grandma is trying to sell me everything else at the sale, from exercise equipment to knick-knacks. As the guy is finishing up the conversation on the phone, I look at the box again and realize there was a tiny little price sticker on it, $5 it said. So I point it out to the woman and hand her a $5, but she has the guy ask the kid if that is really what he wants for it. After another 5 minute conversation, they came to a conclusion that grandma put it out for sale by mistake and that it wasn't supposed to be for sale. So I was walking out empty handed and noticed a Dreamcast and some games in a CD binder, the games were marked $5 and the system $25, I have no idea why the old woman didn't point those out to me, since she did everything else. I thought about looking through the discs to see if there was anything good, but I figured they really weren't for sale either, so I just left the binder on the table and walked away.
