Another fairly slow week, but not bad really. It was definitely a heavy Sony week, in fact, everything I bought was for all three generations of PlayStation. I didn't go to any sales on Friday due to the fact that it was monsoon like in the morning and I had to meet my sister at noon without my dad knowing about it (it was to work on plans for my parents' surprise retirement party) so I skipped the garage sales altogether Friday. There wasn't much left for Saturday, but I managed to get a couple good deals that day. Sunday also brought a rainy morning, so I didn't bother going to the flea market, since it is generally deserted if it even looks like it might rain. I did get nice little surprise in the middle of the week though.
I got this from my cousin. He called me that morning and asked if he wanted to buy his PlayStation, but I forgot the conversation we had had earlier this month and had no idea what he was talking about. I fixed a PS2 for him a while back and I knew he had since upgraded to a PS3 so I thought he was talking about the PS2. I finally realized he was trying to get rid of his PS3 that had broken on him since he was getting a new one. I told him I didn't know much about them so I was doubtful I could fix it, so I told him I'd give him $5 for it. He happily agreed, but said it wouldn't include a controller for that price. I agreed with and I wouldn't have taken it for $5 if there was a controller since I knew he was getting another PS3. So he brought it over later that day, and I must say, I couldn't believe how dirty it was. The dirt is probably the reason it quit working, most of the 20-30 year old systems I see are cleaner than this thing. I'm hoping a good cleaning will fix the problem (he says it doesn't read discs, so the lens may just need cleaned). But I can't fix it yet because you need a controller hooked up to it for it to turn on, and my PS3 controller is in storage with all my other games that are for sale/trade, so I can't test the PS3 yet.
The system is an 80GB and included the A/V and power cord. When I first turned it on, I opened ejected the disc drive and a Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe disc popped out. My cousin was still there but didn't see the game come out and for a second I thought about sliding it back in before he noticed, but I did the right thing and handed him the disc.
I picked this lot of PSX games at a sale on Saturday, they had a ton of games, DVDs and CDs. The PS2 and Xbox games they had were marked $4 and $5 a piece respectively, but there wasn't anything I wanted for that price. The PSX games were $1 each, I could see there were a few I needed, so I offered $10 for all of them. The woman accepted but then asked her son (I guess they were originally his) if that was OK. I was ready for him to say no, but he agreed with the offer as well.
I found this at a sale with a couple other games (Jaws, and a kid's game) marked $2 each. This was the only one I wanted, so I offered $1 for it, my offer was accepted. It's CIB, and in very nice shape. I was hoping it would have a little higher of a value though, it should be fun to play anyway.
