I did one of these last year and I'm glad I did because its allowed me to see just how much stuff I accumulated this past year. So, I'm going to do it again so I can see what all I bought in 2010 come 2011.

Here is my current collection numbers, they may not be exact (with 2000+ games it is sometimes hard to remember to add or delete a couple games) but it should be pretty close, and this is what I use as my "official" count of games at the end of my Treasure Hunt Chronicles posts.

Totals:
Total games: 2,339 (417 more than last year)
Total unique games: 1,919 (441 more than last year)

Total spent on games, systems, accessories, etc: $742.21
Total spent plus shipping costs for trades: $824.86
Total amount sold: $586.19
Total "loss": $238.67
Average price paid per new unique game: $0.54 (calculated by total amount spent minus total amount sold divided by total unique games bought).


Now to just wait and see what 2010 will bring for my collection

Not a bad "loss" ratio at all.

Mine was considerably higher...
 
I need to keep track of what I spend... I dont sell enough Smiley I have WAY to many doubles
 
I tried to keep track this year but around halfway through the year i stopped.
The first 2 years i collected every time i bought something i made a folder for the day and had a description of where i bought it and what it was.

I'd really like to do that again. It makes a nice visual history.
 
@Izret101: That's why I started the Treasure Hunt Chronicles, that basically forced me to keep track of all my purchases. Before the only records I have of buying stuff was if I remembered to post about it in the small scores thread.
