Due to some craziness, I have not been able to write in a long time. But now im back with a vengeance!....or at least more blog posts!

It has been a little slow on the uptake here, at least as far as video games go. (it has been one hell of a year for board games though!)
In other news, I picked up a new job at our local video game/comic/collectable toy store, Level Up Entertainment (http://levelupentertainment.com/). If anyone is ever in the southern New Jersey area come stop by! So hopefully some scores / a tour of the store / posts about specialty stuff may be in order. Just as a preview, we have sealed copies of panzer dragoon saga , pokemon XD, star wars KOTOR 1 and 2...etc, that will go unbought since we lack many "collectors" in our area. Tons of classic toys and stuff too!
Lastly, as sort of a new years resolution, I intend to have a bit more game reviews, and scores posted this year...sorta a personal goal there.
until next time!
~Neo Backlog 272 Collection 736 Completion: 63%
EDIT: the first time i posted this today, somehow it cut off halfway for some reason....its fixed now
Ok...allow me to preface a bit first.
First off, i've been crazy busy, thus explaining the lack of blog posts...and the conclusion of my SGC will be posted....eventually xD
Now onto the find:
I was at a church craft show/ yard sale on a saturday afternoon. Traditionally, i can pick a few things up each year, since the "yard sale" room is ran by old ladies....people donate their stuff to the church and then the church manages the sale of it as opposed to individual sellers.
This year seemed pretty grim, until i looked under a table at a box marked "playstation", with a few bags next to it. The box indeed contained a ps1 with 2x memory cards, a gameshark and power chord (no av or controller >.>) The bags were of particular interest.... after scooping them all up, I asked the old lady there how much for all of it....
"well, since its all gonna get donated in an hour anyway....how about 10$ for all of it?"
Here's what I grabbed!
(nomad/ game gear/ gb / gbc)

all of it works great...no marker, no dirt...hardly any scratches on the systems....and all for 10$
but now for the real question: what to do with pokemon green!?
also: what is the best way to keep games in a cardboard box in good condition?
It's been a bit, but lets check out what got beaten since last time!
Rage
Rage was that game that had no real driving plot, but kept you playing anyway. Like really, no driving plot whatsoever...and the ending is just as bad. The game rocked though!
Most annoyingly out of any of the other quirky features was the massive voice actor cast...so much so that i couldn't talk to anyone without knowing where I had heard their voice before. Also, Steve Blum, if you are reading this....stop stalking my games....and change your damn voice once and a freaking while.
The visuals were breathtaking, and the gameplay was spot on....so much so that I wanna make a foam wingstick model.
My only other gripe is the car customization...none of it really felt different, although for a tacked on mini game, i guess i cant expect much.
Borderlands
Me and the girlfriend were busy here...beating every quest in the main game...then the DLC went on sale so we bought em all and have most of that done. This was just pure fun....although i had bought the DLC with the bank a lot sooner... so many good guns lost to the 0's and 1's of history >.Pokemon Snap
A really fun game, when my N64 would cooperate. Hated the inverted controls, and was a bit too short.
But does anyone else see the Wii U as a perfect opportunity to make Snap 2???
Turtles in Time
This was one hell of an afternoon....playing all morning and not quite making it, then convincing the gf to put borderlands down for a day and to come help....blamo, 45 min later it was done. Almost like contra in the way that it's significantly easier with a second competent person at the helm (speaking of which, Super C is just waiting this same occurrence). Not much to complain about here either, except that it's more money than turtles arcade, but less fun.
Star Wars: Rebel Assault II
Lets preface by saying I LOVE SW:RA for Sega CD. That said, RA2 was a bit of a letdown. The controls were sluggish, even compared to the original, and although first and third person modes were there...it still diddnt capture that magic of the first. Part of the problem may be the storyline, which just couldnt get me into it...
so where does that leave me?
Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
Borderlands
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Rage Saints Row Diamond 2-Pack Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Legend of Zelda, The: Ocarina of Time
Pokmon Snap Legend of Zelda, The: The Wind Waker Metroid Prime Double Dragon II: The Revenge Faxanadu Super C Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project Donkey Kong Country
Star Fox Super Mario World
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time Pikmin Punch-Out!!
Contra: Hard Corps
Sonic & Knuckles Legend of Dragoon, The
Star Wars: Rebel Assault II Bully Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Ace Combat 04 Shattered Skies
Lots of games done, still more to go!....I think a few games may get replaced due to lack of interest, or , since my family discovered the wii has netflix, console availability.
Till next time

Since writing 30 diffrent blogs seemed excessive, I decided to reduce my SGC updates to 1x a week....
and a busy week it was! Shortly after posting my rant about S&K (read it here: http://www.rfgeneration.c...2-Sonic-Knuckles-2169.php ) I finished Call of duty: MW3.
It was much longer than I had expected, although I wasn't expecting much. The action was great, and it was a worthwile wrap up to the storyline
Yesterday graced my tv with the completion of Starfox for the SNES....and I'm not too sure why I waited this long to play it. The game was fun, exciting, and handled precicely. Can't complaign at all...except for the wacky end boss. Why in the hell is Andross a cube?
Oh well, small complaignts asside, I had a blast with both of these games.
Now to update the list
Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Borderlands [Game of the Year]
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Rage [Anarchy Edition] Saints Row Diamond 2-Pack Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Legend of Zelda, The: Ocarina of Time Pokemon Snap Legend of Zelda, The: The Wind Waker Metroid Prime Double Dragon II: The Revenge Faxanadu Super C Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project Donkey Kong Country
Star Fox Super Mario World Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time Pikmin Punch-Out!!
Contra: Hard Corps
Sonic & Knuckles Legend of Dragoon, The Star Wars: Rebel Assault II Bully Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Ace Combat 04 Shattered Skies
four games down! woo! Working on Rage right now, and the gf to finish borderlands (just grabbed all the DLC too!..yay xbox deal of the week!) About 12-13 game days into pikmin, and have half the parts. Don't even remember where I left off at in D&D.
Stuck on the last boss in punchout...curse you Mr.Sandman!!! Pokemon snap is on the volcano stage.
Till next time, ~Neo

2 games down already! This time it's Sonic and Knuckles for genesis (which for those of you keeping track means i can put the Sega away for the rest of the summer xD)
Sonic and knuckles felt odd, and i couldn't put my finger on it until about half way through the game....when i saw a scene that looked sorta like this:
look familiar? ...how about when put near this:
it was at this point that i realized i was no longer playing a sonic game....just a cheap mario ripoff. The speed that defined the games was minimal, and twitchy platforming sections dominated the game. I was really hoping that after my disappointing experience with sonic 3 (read it here:http://www.rfgeneration.c...-NeoMagicwarrior-1798.php) that the game would return to its roots....*sigh*
That isn't to say the game was all bad. The controls were tighter than they had ever been, and some of the music was great (even though some of it was horrible).
Eventually, i'll have to go back through with knuckles and see if it is any more enjoyable that way, but for now i'll call it done!
so where am I at?
Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Borderlands Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Rage Saints Row Diamond 2-Pack Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Legend of Zelda, The: Ocarina of Time Pokemon Snap Legend of Zelda, The: The Wind Waker Metroid Prime Double Dragon II: The Revenge Faxanadu Super C Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project Donkey Kong Country Star Fox Super Mario World Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time Pikmin Punch-Out!!
Contra: Hard Corps
Sonic & Knuckles Legend of Dragoon, The Star Wars: Rebel Assault II Bully Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Ace Combat 04 Shattered Skies
I may grab ace combat this afternoon to start it up...eventually i'll finish COD tonight. The GF and I are 3/4 through borderlands...and having a blast doing so (think im gonna make her help on all the co-op games!)
Till next time! ~Neo Backlog Count: 257
Well, the first of the pile has fallen! Contra Hard Corps is finally beaten.
CHC requires a bit of an explanation as to why it is so important. I've had this game as long as I've had my genesis (94-95ish). And as a five year old, it is tough to decide which game is harder: the lion king or Contra Hard Corps. Now that I'm much older, I have come to see the answer: lion king.
Contra Hard Corps was more of a memory game than i had thought. After not playing this gem for years, it all just fell into place...each bullet expertly dodged with precision and grace and extra lives....so many extra lives and continues.
i really wish i could find some sort of story on it though....not sure how a wolf with a robotic arm and a robot fit into contra storywise....then again, why am i asking about a story in contra???
I really enjoyed playing through it....and cant wait till i get the time to play through again to get a different ending..
so where does that leave me? oh wait 29 more >.>

well, its that time again! time to clear out the old backlog! and fortunately, unlike last year, all i want to buy between now and school happens to be lollypop chainsaw (although we all know im gonna buy a metric crap-ton of classic stuff between now and then). so now, a quick look at this year's debacle!
Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Borderlands Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Rage Saints Row Diamond 2-Pack Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Legend of Zelda, The: Ocarina of Time Pokmon Snap Legend of Zelda, The: The Wind Waker Metroid Prime Double Dragon II: The Revenge Faxanadu Super C Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project Donkey Kong Country Star Fox Super Mario World Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time Pikmin Punch-Out!! Contra: Hard Corps Sonic & Knuckles Legend of Dragoon, The Star Wars: Rebel Assault II Bully Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Ace Combat 04 Shattered Skies
lots of mess this year...2 zelda games, an rpg or two...and multi disk games everywhere!
to be fair, a lot of these are started already, so its more like 20-25 full games...although that doesnt make it look too much better!
as for game 1, i think im finally gonna finish story mode for COD:MW3....but what to play next?!!
till next time ~Neo Backlog count: 259!? geez!
Grabbed a sweet deal at a yard sale this weekend! all this for 4$!!! Had to share!

Super excited to play phantasy star II! Hint book and map look great!
Well, after a long time, it seems I'm finally gonna get back to writing some more (maybe). To start out, I thought i'd bring up a recent strike from the backlog: Pinball quest
if you are not familiar with pinball, come back and read this when you turn 5.(and on a related note, wait a little longer...im pretty sure swear words will lurk their way in here somehow)
I picked pinball quest up right before Christmas at my local game store (....shameless plug => http://levelupentertainment.com/) since i had some extra $ on me and it looked pretty bad ass (and for 2.99 you really cant go wrong)
Bad ass this isn't.
Lets start out at the top: you have 3 separate, multi tiered levels which handle like basic nes pinball games should, albeit a little choppier. The real meat and potatos is the "RPG mode"

This screen above me is where you will spend most of your time...trying to hit that damn left ramp! Once you pass that, you have to kill some skeletons...which 9-10 times bump you back down after 1 hit. Then after you kill all of them, and the giant skeleton king that pops up, its on to the shop with its over priced stuff!

as you can see, "steal" is actually an option: and it becomes a requirement...
after the shop, you fight a witch, who is impossible without upgraded flipper damage...she keeps healing, and although you can break her healing fountain, you just keep getting knocked back >.>
eventually, my game devolved into fighting on the first two screens, and trying to steal from the shopkeeper in between. eventually, i stole the permanent blockers and the best flippers in game....which made quick work of everything after that...kinda felt like cheating though.
for the 3$ i spent, it was funish...if nothing else, it makes a decent paperweight.
Till next time, stay classy San Diego

1) Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (360) 2) Red Dead Redemption (360) 3) Deus Ex: The Conspiracy (PS2) 4) Sonic Spinball (Gen) 5) Gears of War II (360) 6) Front Mission (DS) 7) Halo Wars (360) 8 ) Ico (PS2) 9) Kessen (PS2) 10) Brutal Legend (360) 11) Fallout: New Vegas (360) 12) The Lion King (Gen) 13) Sonic 3 (Gen) 14) OOT/Yoshi Story 15) Deus Ex: Human Revolution (360) 16) Marvel VS Capcom 3 17) Portal 18) Beautiful Katimari 19) Contra (NES) 20) Gears Of War (360)
Time is winding down, and i highly doubt i'm gonna be able to finish...especially with a long work week coming up. I had to cut perfect dark off the list...my cart keeps freezing up every 30 seconds. Brutal Legend is on the last mission and im stuck. Front mission, Yoshi Story/OoT, kessen, and ico are all games im not even gonna try and finish now. But lets focus on what did get beaten since last update
Fallout: New Vegas: If you have ever played Bethsida's other franchise, the Elder Scrolls, picture that with guns and you have fallout. I played fallout 3 for a while...although all i did was kill everything and neglect the story because, well, it bored me...a lot. New Vegas' storyline was amazing by comparison. Hooked from minute one, the killing spree had to wait until i finished...speaking of which...im waiting for the DLC to go on sale so i can keep playing ^_^
Pros: Open world, Great Story, Graphics, Control. Cons: Fighting still doesn't feel ...right
Gears 2:
Brilliant. Play It.
Pros: Everything Cons: Needs more Cole Train.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution: It begs to say that I started the Deus Ex Series with Invisible War for xbox. the case was shiny, and the guy in gamestop said it was good...the price was right and i played it...straight through without sleeping. Eventually i picked up the first game (see above list), played halfway though....then inexplicably stopped. haven't picked it up since.
Human Revolution was different. I preordered it the day it was announced (last game i preordered was Halo 2...i don't buy launch day games) Since it came out last tuesday, Ive been playing it off and on, picking up Dracula X for turbografx CD in between it and work ( and hurricane prep / tornado warnings).
This was by far, the most action packed game I've played in a while. even the downtime between missions doesn't seem like downtime. The storyline twisted more times than my intestines after taco bell. the gameplay was wonderful. The controls took a bit to get used to, but were fluid after an hour or so.
The enemies were a bit stupid at times though...and to hell with the boss fights. NOT FUN!. The philosophical endings left a bit to be desired...and looked like they came straight out of metal gear solid's flashback sequences. It diddnt click that this was a prequel until the after credits bonus however...which makes it even cooler...and drives me to put The Conspiracy in the PS2 after work tonight.
Pros: Stealth, Badass Costume, Storyline Cons: AI, Boss Fights
With some diligent playing, i may be able to slug a few more out before the september 6th deadline (school starts >.>). lets see how it goes....
Till next time

2 games down this week!!!! Just finished red dead this morning. Really boring beginning, great middle getting crappier towards the end, then WHAM! Ending of win. Really glad i trudged through the beginning, would have missed a really great game otherwise.
As for gears, Ive been playing co-op with the gf for a few weeks now whenever we get the time. got tired of splitting up, but fantastic otherwise.
With Deus Ex: HR coming out soon, im gonna have to slug out a few more off the list...except that i cant put the Undead Nightmare DLC down >.>

Ok, so i lied about getting anything actually beaten from the actual list. Things have been a bit crazy preparing for + going to Otakon. (went as bob-omb + Engineer from TF2...pics coming eventually) Then convention ran fri-sun...so since we got there on thirs, it seemed only natural to play video games with my roommates. around midnight, long after everyone else was asleep, me and my friend frank beat Contra!
Contra really needs no introduction or review. It is good...go play it. I do have one real question...why is the final boss a nutsack?
also, side note: while @ otakon, picked up an amazing ps2 controler! new in box for 15$!!!!

Ok...so nothing new done yet but the list warrants an update. Due to a disagreement with my little sister, the GC games are being pulled out of the SGC list (read: she took it into her room and wont let me play it because i wont let her play my 360) As for Max payne being removed...i remembered why i stopped the first time through....scratched disk. So, without further adieu, I present list 2.0:
1) Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (360) 2) Red Dead Redemption (360) 3) Deus Ex: The Conspiracy (PS2) 4) Sonic Spinball (Gen) 5) Perfect Dark (N64) 6) Front Mission (DS) 7) Halo Wars (360) 8 ) Ico (PS2) 9) Kessen (PS2) 10) Brutal Legend (360) 11) Fallout: New Vegas (360) 12) The Lion King (Gen) 13) Sonic 3 (Gen) 14) *****SEE BELOW***** 15) Deus Ex: Human Revolution (360) 16) Marvel VS Capcom 3 17) Portal 18) Beautiful Katimari 19) TBD 20) TBD
Red Dead, Brutal legend, and fallout: NV are all very close to the end...and i've been playing them instead of the rest of the games on my list while i argued with lil sis.
As for 14, im gonna let you guys decide, since i cant myself. Your choices are:
Banjo Kazooie Zelda: OOT Yoshi Story
gonna prob finish up read dead tonight if all goes well. Catch ya later and dont forget to let me know which one i should play!

After years of procrastination, I've finally beaten Sonic 3... which i will now consider to be the worst of the original 2D sidescrolling sonics. Each level felt painfully like i was playing another, sub par platformer, and not the breakneck speed thrill that was the rest of the sonic series. The music sucked, power ups were lame and unnecessary (except the fireball ^_^) and it only had 6 levels. What the balls?!
Even weirder, at the end...you blow up the death star.
That looks like blatant copyright infringement if you ask me. I'll do a longer rant on the sonic series in the future... so I'll save it for now.
Also, just discovered how to customize the blog! Awesome new theme added for extra flare. Let me know what you guys think of it....although i'm sure i'll get bored of it and decide to change it to fit every new blog post.

I've finally done it! I finally beat the the game i've had the longest (technically tied with Sonic 2) The Lion King has been put to rest.
I blame the large span of time on two separate levels. First and foremost, the 2nd level based of of " can't wait to be king". The giraffe you have to jump through are impossible. the ostrich ride is incomparable difficult, and what 5 year old is gonna figure out the monkey puzzle.
Second, and more importantly, Simba's Exile (5th level). The rocks falling from the sky are quite annoying, but what really kills me every time are the boulders that move super fast while you are in a cavern and cant jump over them. and to put a porcupine in the middle of said cavern so that the only way to get past is to run at full speed, take the hit and fall off the edge is unfair at best.
But it's done and thats all that matters. Plans for the future include continuing wind waker and GRAW, starting sonic and perfect dark, and getting ready for Otakon at the end of the month! Anyone else going?
