Update #3 of my game room.

I added a peg board for my controllers to the near wall.  It turned out a lot better than I thought it would.

I also bought some gallon sized ziplock freezer bags and put the hookups for each individual system inside of them and labeled them by writing with permanent marker on each bag.  I bought another drawer system so that I could keep them organized.  Row #1 and #2 console hookups are in the first drawer, Rows #3 & #4 are in the second drawer.  Third drawer is for misc. additional accessories (Power Pad, Wii driving wheels, and nunchuks are in there).

As suggested by Crabmaster2000, I organized the hookups that I could and for the hardwired systems, I wrapped up the chords so that they would not show behind the display.  It looks much nicer now.

The wife is ordering me a nice gaming chair for Father's Day and I'm going to buy a few comfortable beanbags for the floor.  All I need now is some posters and other memorabilia to display!

This is so hilarious...you have the same exact shelving I do in my room, except my bins are blue instead of black. I even have the same deal you had, with hookups in plastic bags. The black shelving units though will sag if you put too much weight on them - my guides were on that shelf, and the shelves eventually bent down to rest on the next level.

The peg board does look nice though - I may end up doing that.

@Shadow Kisuragi: The peg board was easy and cheap to do.  I paid a little less than $6 for a 2' x 4' board, which they already have precut at Lowes.  They also sell a 4' x 4' and a few other sizes.  The hooks were about a $1 each and I made sure to anchor into the drywall well and use fender washers behind my screws, since pegboard is fairly fragile.  Be sure to use some plastic spacers behind your board to give yourself enough room for the hooks to go in.  Pretty funny that we have a similar set up.

Your room looks really good.  It looks nice, clean, and it flows nicely.

May I suggest an alternate way to wrap your controller cords? If you spool them in 3-4 inch circles, it keeps the wires in better shape with less memory. The tighter they're wound or bent, the more likely it is for the inner wires to break.

Do you leave any consoles hooked up or do you just hook them up when you're ready to play?

@NES_Rules: Good to know regarding the wires, I'll be sure to take care of that soon.  I have a 2600 hooked up to a small TV and my NES2 hooked into my larger TV, and of course the Vectrex.  I don't play the other systems as much, so I just hook them up as needed.

Personally, I don't dig the peg board; never really liked that look. No matter how neatly things are arranged on peg board, it always looks a mess to me.

But then, that's my cross to bear in life.

Otherwise, it looks like your 'cade is coming along quite well!

The console shelf looks fantastic now!! What a difference that made just from hiding a few cords.

Looks like the peg board is gonna work well for you. I wasnt sure how it would look. I'd suggest painting it black though so it fits the look of the shelves next to it and doesnt look so out of place.

Keep up the good work.

@Zagnorch:  Yeah, I was worried that the pegboard might look like a total mess, but it turned out pretty well considering.  I had to make a decision regarding throwing my controllers in a drawer or displaying them, so I chose the latter.  It worked out pretty well, since the few friends who have seen it tend to gravitate toward it and it becomes a great conversation piece. (i.e. "What the hell does this go to?" and "Wow I remember this damn thing!"  Just my thoughts, but I can understand your concern with having one.

@Crabmaster2000: Good call, I think I will paint it black.  I might as well, since I already have the paint.  I bought a nice red beanbag for the floor, so I could try and keep with a black/red NES theme.  Not going to try and convince the wife to let me paint the room red though. Smiley

I like the peg board too. First time i remember seeing one and it does look "cleaner" than you would expect.

What Shadow said is correct. I had the same problem with the shelves. You MIGHT be able to keep it from happening by sliding a little cross brace into the middle of every shelf. The onyl one of mine that didn't noticeably bow was the one with gameboy/c/a/ ds games on it.

Coming along quite nicely!
