So, I'm old and summer doesn't quite mean what it use to mean to me anymore (i.e. sleeping in until noon and spending countless hours playing video games).  Now I'm 34, employed full-time, married, with a 3 year-old-kid, and another due this Saturday...... So what better way to spend my free hours (*minutes*) than participating in ye olde 2011 Summer Gaming Challenge as brought to the attention of RFGen members by noiseredux (http://www.rfgeneration.c...Gaming-Challenge-1748.php).  Though I'm only choosing NES games for my list, since I don't want to waste any game time by hooking up multiple systems, I tried to pick a variety of games, including a few I never played or even hated growing up.  Here's the list:

1.    Adventure Island - I never had the opportunity of playing this one when I was younger.  I hope it's enjoyable and maybe encourages me to play through 2 & 3 down the road.

2.    Crystalis - Actually picked this game up today, though I have been searching for it locally for years.  I've heard so many good things about it and am excited to include this RPG in my list.

3.    Contra (2 million points, no cheat code) - I have always been a very good Contra player (first game that I ever beat) and Ilogged the new record for the Contra high score yesterday (http://www.rfgeneration.c...m/index.php?topic=3124.90).  I'm now determined to shatter it and break 2 million points.

4.    Defender of the Crown - One of those fun and interactive take over the realm type games.  Never beat it when I was younger, so I'm looking forward to it now.

5.    Double Dragon II - My beat 'em up game for the summer.

6.    Fester's Quest - The reviews on this game are always very mixed; some like it, others hate it.  I thought I would give it a shot and form my own opinion on the matter.

7.    Kickle Cubicle - A bought this very enjoyable action/puzzle game about a year ago.  I've never really had the time to dedicate to finishing it.

8.    Zelda II: The Adventure of Link - Like many others, I hated Zelda 2 as a kid.  I remember being dumbfounded by the total change in gameplay when it came out.  I know there are those out there who stand by this game and for that reason, I'm giving it another chance.

9.    Renegade - After watching some video a few years back, I realized just how close I came to finishing this game (seriously, like one room).  I'm coming back for revenge Sabu!

10.  Wizards & Warriors - Though I beat this a few times as a kid, I can't recall any of it.  It's going to be fun watching it all fall back into place.

Half of those games I beat as a kid. My favorite Nintendo memory has to be Kickle Cubicle though. My mom, her roommate, and I woke up one morning and sat there alternating play on Kickle Cubicle until 3pm in the afternoon, still dressed in our pajamas.

good luck on Adventure Island. That game's a jerk.

BTW, I'm one of those people who stand by Zelda II.

@Shadow Kisuragi:Made it through 3 of the 4 castles tonight in Kickle Cubicle.  Such a great game!  It's like if Adventures of Lolo and Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom had a love child and added boss battles.

@noiseredux:I considered replacing Adventure Island with Mega Man 3, but I'm going to try and stick with the pick.

Pretty solid picks!

Crystalis is awesome. I actually like it better than Zelda for the NES.

Make sure you find the Hudson Bee in Adventure Island. I've beaten the game, but it would have been nearly impossible without that.

I've got great memories of Wizards & Warrios 1 & 2. Such fun games.

As you already seem to know, Kickle Cubicle rocks!

Kickle Cubicle beaten, though I feel as if I should also have to complete the 30 additional bonus levels after the ending....
