I recently found and sent CrabMaster2000 a power adapter for his Atari 2600 so that could finally fire it up and join me in some retro gaming. Before I sent it, we talked about playing against each other for high score once it arrived. Well, it arrived today and I looked over his list of games to determine what we would play first. I have decided on Phoenix as the first game. After thinking about it (for oh, let's say 5 minutes), I decided to blog about this challenge and open it up for anyone on RFGen who is game. Scores can be posted as responses to this blog. Of course we are going by the honor system here, so please, no made up scores or other forms of cheating. The challenge will run until the end of the month, October 31 at midnight. Hopefully, we will have enough participants and be able to make this a monthly event. Good luck!

...but I don't have room to hook up my Atari 2600 right now, and everything's boxed away! I really don't want to unpack, but I may have to now.
@Shadow Kisuragi: You have until the end of October. Do it. Do it.
I might but I suck at Atari games
@singlebanana: Right now, finding your DWIV cartridge is killing me, and that's in my living room somewhere. You think I'm going to have luck finding all of the appropriate hookups and Phoenix in the sea of equipment and boxes that is my Game Room?
@ixtaileddemonfox: Eh, I think the majority of us probably suck at Atari games, so by all means, join in.
@singlebanana: I can't get the picture to come in on my atari got sound but no picture any suggestions.
@ixtaileddemonfox: How are you connecting it? Are you using an adapter to screw it into your TV or an old RF switch?
After digging through my stack of Atari carts, looks like I'll be throwin' down.
BTW is this just a one-off deal? In other words, you just play the game once until you run out of lives, and post the resulting score? Or can you play it as many times as possible, and post the high score from your best game?
@singlebanana: an old rf switch the kind you have to attach with the 2 screws.
@Zagnorch P. Welinskivich II, Esq.: As many times as possible, posting ongoing high scores to beat until the end of the month. Glad you are getting in on this sir.
@ixtaileddemonfox: If that's the case, then it's probably your rf switch. You can pick up an adapter that screws directly into your TV at Radio Shack for around $3-$5. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-2600-5200-7800-RF-adapter-TV-Switch-Connector-/220865588777?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item336c9d6e29

You should start a thread in The Arena so we can keep track of everyones scores. I'll test it out today and post my first score hopefully.
@singlebanana:
Cool. Thanks a bunch for that info.
Heh. A bunch...
BTW I had to get one of those adapters for my setup. Works fine.
@Crabmaster2000: Yeah, that may work on helping us track it better.
First score is up. See if you can take me down!
Your second score posted is absurd. This game seriously needs a pause feature.
@singlebanana:
I had one of those adaptors I had to take my 2 ataris apart and I made one that worked lol.
@banana - Pause would be sweet. I actually had to make a phone call during the 160k score I posted. If you just wipe out all the enemies but one on the first 2 screens its managable enough to make a quick call though.
I joined and I suck bad!
Congrats to Crabmaster2000 for his high Phoenix score of the month of 266,940.
