We interrupt your regularly scheduled turkey stuffing to bring you the November 2020 edition of RF Generation's Site News! In this issue, we announce our December Community Playthrough game, reveal our shoot 'em up club title, and of course, thank those members who sent in submissions to our site and registered approvals last month. Thanks for keeping it on Channel 3 and please continue to keep you and your loved ones SAFE!

REMEMBER: If you have any news about upcoming events or topics that you think the site needs to hear about, please PM singlebanana and put "RFG Site News" in the subject line.  Who knows, maybe your news will make our front page!

DECEMBER 2020 COMMUNITY PLAYTHROUGH

Next month, the Playcast guys forego their regular December site competition in favor of a more modern and easily accessible game that we can enjoy as a community.  If you haven't played it, you have definitely heard of Among Us.  This fast-paced murder mystery game has swept the nation during the Pandemic and allowed friends and strangers alike some much needed decompression.  In Among Us, you join a crew of astronauts aboard a star cruiser, but all is not as it seems, there is an Imposter or two onboard who are determined to wreck havoc and murder the entire crew if left unidentified. Can you complete all of your tasks and reveal the Imposter before your crew is depleted?  Or can you get away with  copious amounts of murder and have wrongly accused crew members hurdled into space?  The fate of the space mission is in your hands.

If you're playing Among Us along with us in December, be sure to join our forum HERE to watch a tutorial and chat with us about the game.  We will also post community game nights and times on he forum so that we can all play together.  Among Us is available on all mobile devices for free and on Steam for $5.  Cross-play is available so pick up either one and join in!

DECEMBER 2020 SHMUP PLAYTHROUGH

Once in a while you need a break from long games. Instead, you want a bite-size experience, to whet your appetite, but not take up too much of your time. One way to scratch that itch is to play a caravan shooter. For the uninitiated, caravan shooters are short experiences, specifically timed, that give you the opportunity to shoot a bunch of enemies, obstacles, or targets, and score as many points as possible in a short time. Caravan scoring competitions began in Japan in the 1980's, particularly with Hudson shooting games, and many shmups since then have included caravan or time attack modes, specifically to give players a more condensed experience, and an opportunity to maximize high score, without having to learn the larger game.

While caravan shooters might not be as popular as they once were, there's still love for them in the scene. A more modern example is the homebrew Sega Master System game, Flight of Pigarus. Developed by Kagesan, and released in 2018, it's a free to download game ROM where you control a flying pig, and shoot everything that moves, and everything that doesn't! The game has both 2 minute, and 5 minute modes, and gives players that short burst of gameplay that sometimes fits the bill. The game is free to download via SMS Power, and is playable via emulators, most Sega Genesis and Master System flash carts, and FPGA devices like the MiSTer. Join the RF Generation Shmup Club in December 2020, as we play Flight of Pigarus!
