@Paully3433:It is cooked - I had to laugh myself when I my brother handed this over to me that day. It is so out of the norm for my collection that I had to say 'yes' when he asked if I truly wanted it back. It was too much of a classic to pass up. Even with the sale of my collection going on, I will undoubtedly keep this 'gem' for sentimental\humor purposes.

The copy of Modern Warfare 2 looks that my sister has looks the exact same way after my new puppy got to it. Ironically only the case/insert was trashed, the manual inside looks brand new.

When I was 14ish my friend lent me his copy of Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. While riding my bike home from his house the game fell out of my backpack, got run over by my back tire, and ended up in a mud puddle. luckily I was able to clean it up so that he never knew (and I never told him).
I only lend my games to a few select people. Most of my friends understand how valuable this stuff is to me and have agreed to replace my copy if anything should happen while its in their possession (dogs, kids, honest mistakes, etc.). The most valuable games I've lent out would probably be Xenogears, Final Fantasy VII and Castlevania: SotN. All 3 are still in beautiful condition.
I have a handful of games that I wouldnt lend to anyone, but fortunately most people dont care about them and never ask.

The case for my Mass Effect that I lent to a friend got destroyed buy his dogs. I was furious and I don't think I lent out a game to anyone since. I got a new case and box art for the game but my book still has a few tooth marks in it.

I never lend anything out, even to close friends, and especially not family members unless I genuinely do not care if I get it back.
I learned this lesson at a very young age, it was the early 90's and my sister lent a copy of Dr Mario to one of her friends, who moved to another state soon afterward, along with Dr. Mario. As a result I never even got a chance to play the game until years later when I got another copy.

I honestly don't mind lending out games at all, especially to brothers. Hell, my youngest brother whom I know is responsible for destroying a few controllers, game cases, saving over my files, etc has every single one of my DS games, my PSP games, my Gamecube games, and even my Gamecube system and controllers. I don't care what condition I get them back in as long as he enjoyed playing them or doing whatever.

I don't lend out games anymore. I used to, but after one too many bad experiences I just stopped lending things out altogether. I haven't gotten something back in such a bad condition as the game pictured above, but it's just always something. Hinges broken off, manual pages ripped, discs getting scratched, ...
Many people just don't seem to care, not even with things that aren't theirs. Shocking really. But meh, it doesn't happen to me anymore.

@TraderJake: That's understandable, except Zach is the one person in the family who I'm sure would keep whatever you give him pristine-- dude's pretty damn good at keeping stuff pristine. He's got my Cowboy Bebop dvds right now and knowing him I'll get them back in better condition somehow. Also I need to lend either Persona 3 or 4.

I loaned Pokemon Crystal out back in 2002 and never got it back, lesson to self don't lend anymore!

At first glance, I knew it had to be dogs. Years ago we got a dalmation who thought he was a much smaller breed of dog. He took a liking to some of my anime as well as an snes game. Upon seeing the dogs, I can only imagine how pissed they were at him for making them dress up like L from Death Note. Everyone knows Light had more style.
