So after 5 years my fat model 40 gig ps3 died. It started turning itself off after like 10 mins of gameplay for a day or two. Then started turning off immediately every time i turned on the ps3. From asking around and reading online sounds like some thermal paste or something like that inside is cheap and leads to crap inside the ps3 melting and getting broken eventually. My ps3 was in a well ventilated area too. I really did not feel like spending money on buying a new ps3. 250 bucks seemed a bit high for a new one to me. I had made up my mind that I was just going to suffer for like 6 months to a year and wait for a price drop. I was considering buying a used wii, even though there's only a handful of games I want to play on that. I freaking hate waggle bulls**t.
Anyways, an evil terrible corporation who I normally wouldn't touch with an on million foot pole ended up coming to rescue. Gamestop, *PUKES*, had a great deal on a new ps3 that is for a week only. It last until the 26th I believe. You can get a new 160 gig ps3 for 200 bucks (50 off the normal price). You also get one free new game and have a choice between that new batman game or the komplete edition of the Mortal Kombat game. Since I don't care for fighting games much I just sold gamestop Mortal Kombat back. Used the 30 dollar credit and bought used copies of Dj Hero 1 and Dj Hero 2 on the ps3, as well as a new in box DJ hero controller. I've wanted to try that series for forever, and I basically got to for free.
Gamestop also had a buy 2 get 1 free thing on ps2 and gc games. Although 80 percent of the games had no manual or case artwork, automatically disqualifying them from my consideration, I still managed to find some games. Got Midnight Club 2, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2, and Dance Dance Revolution Extreme. They were all around 5 bucks and of course one was free because of the deal. I dont have a ddr mat yet but I'll get one eventually. I've never actually tried DDR before, but I'm curious to do so.
My body and mind feel like really confused though. I walked away from Gamestop this time feeling a feeling I've never ever in a trillion year felt while shopping there. I was actually satisfied.. they actually did not screw me over or rip me off in any way shape or form this time. I of course double checked every little thing before leaving the store, due to my pass experiences of being f***ed in the ass their so frequently. But nope, everything was fine this time. What is this world coming too... I don't even know who I am any more. For a temporary time in my life, I was happy with Gamestop. ewwww

I tried something new again on my channel and recorded some skype talk between myself and another guy I game online with a lot. We were playing X-men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse online co-op on the Playstation 2. I thought our stupid jokes were funny, but am really curious if other people do and want to see more of this. Let me know if you liked it or want us to go die in a fire.

Maybe Gamestop didn't screw you, but Sony did... twice! 1- 5 years is too short a time for a system's life span, in my opinion. 2- You lost backwards compatibility by "upgrading" to a newer model.
I know how I'd feel.

DJ Hero over Mortal Kombat....

You should have sent your PS3 off to me and I would have fixed it for a fraction of the cost of a brand new machine. It would have been just like the day it came off the assembly line, maybe better.

This part of the reason I wasn't keen on getting another sony console this generation, I don't think there very well made, both my original PS1 and ps2 failed within 5-6 years which is pretty poor compared to a 20 year old mega-cd which is still going stong.

Haha I feel the same about Game Stop haven't been there in 2 years, flipped them the bird and walked out. I drive by dozens of them just to go to my local game store. If it makes you feel better in those 5 years your PS3 was living I went through 3 X-Box 360's from the RROD failure. My Sega Saturn from '95 that looks like its been dropped 100 times and was packed with dust when I bought it at a thrift store still works like a champ. Sega really knew how to make disc based systems well, I don't know many people that had problems with any of their disc and even cartridge systems.

I only shop at the one by my house... most others the employers are dumb. so I get them to have games sent to them

I had a very similar problem with my launch 360. I had already fixed the RROD problem with some new thermal paste and a Xclamp mod, but nearly a year ago my 360 started shutting down during gameplay. Some said it was the original fix done improperly, others said it was the videocard. Regardless, it seemed my system was at an end and I would soon be out $200. That night on a whim I dissembled it and found one of the intake vents clogged with dust. I blew it out with my compressor and voila, no more shutdowns.
While it would be easy for me to hate on Gamestop, I stand outside of their "circle of life." While I do buy occasionally, I only buy old games (like more than three years old) and I never sell back.

@Crabmaster: Hell, DJ Hero over Batman. Never thought I'd see the day.
I still don't understand why GameStop gets so much hate. Sure, they don't always have the best prices, but they do occasionally. And when they do, it is usually an excellent deal. Plus, when you take advantage of their trade-in bonuses, you can build up a ton of credit and basically buy things for half off. Just because certain employees in certain stores are incompetent/idiotic/a**holes is no reason to miss out on a great deal.
@gamer2112: Why does backwards compatibility matter in 2012?
|
@Crabmaster2000: no kiddin
|
@blcklblskt: WOW I read that wrong. I thought he kept Batman. That makes me even more super sad

Gamestop is not that bad of a company. There prices are not that bad if you compare them to most places that don't update there prices on a daily bases. But if you compare Gamestop or any company to goodwill or thrift stores and stuff then yes you can say Gamestop is expensive. Also to all the people who drive by Gamestop to go to there local game store you are passing up on so many games that they might not have. Gamestop has games going thru there left and right. Local gamestores normally don't have a rotating selection as quick.

Some people have seem to see my above Gamestop comment as a little abrupt. I don't hate Gamestop that much. I just absolutely hate their service (In my area) and how a majority of their games are not complete and in generic cases and as a collector I hate that.
As referring to "My local gamestore" The owner of the game store is an ex Gamestop manager, so he knows how Gamestop works and how to exploit it. I know the owner personally and he goes above and beyond to serve his customers, something Gamestop has never done for me personally.
His prices destroy Gamestop without a doubt. Something that would normally cost $19.99 at Gameatop costs $17.99 at his store and is usually in better condition. His trade in values are much better too. His inventory prices are always up to date as he uses Price Charting website standards on retro and modern consoles. So he does keep up with prices in a daily bases.
I was not trying to start a flame war here but I guess it came off the wrong way. In my area I just have much better options than Gamestop, thats all. If you live in an area that doesn't have independent game stores or has independent game stores that are overpriced I understand. Maybe Gamestop may be the only option where you live.

@blcklblskt: I'm pretty sure it's just considered "cool" to hate Gamestop.
