I'm ready to wrap up 2017 from a gaming perspective, and otherwise. This year will go down as another banner year for video games which ends in a seven, and while I have acquired many of the top-tier titles released this year, the only one I played was Persona 5. It was a fantastic experience, but it was the only cutting edge experience I had all year. As the year draws to a close, I find myself looking forward to 2018 as the year when I will play the best games of 2017, like Nier: Automata and Yakuza Zero among many others.

This year I added three major consoles to my collection. I finally pulled the trigger on both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. I have enjoyed the leap into the current generation quite a bit so far. The ability to share screenshots and video instantly on social media adds a fun layer of community to any game (if you remember to hit the share button when something cool happens). Although I bought the Xbox One almost impulsively, I have enjoyed many games on it this year. True, I am definitely disappointed with the lack of exclusives, but I knew about that going in, and I do like how cross-platform titles tend to be cheaper on the XBONE. I also added a PS2 compatible PS3 to my collection, and truth be told, this would probably be my "desert island" console, or the one I would grab first if my house was on fire.

Believe it or not, I am still playing Metal Gear Solid V when nothing else jumps at me. After over 200 hours of game time logged, I am still unlocking things and leveling up my army. The servers for the game are still active, so it is still loads of fun invading other players' bases and stealing their resources and soldiers (and perhaps hoping your victim is no longer playing the game and thus will not retaliate). This is a great game for me right now as I continue to focus my efforts on reading and my interest in gaming as a whole has taken a (hopefully short) decline.

I am very excited about 2018 from many perspectives. I am hoping to find some kind of balance between reading and gaming as well as various other leisure activities. I would like to find the fortitude to let go of games that I don't need in my collection anymore, and to be more discriminating with what comes in. No matter what, I know I will continue to have fun with my friends here on RFGeneration. Thanks for everything and have a happy New Year!

Congrats on the new systems and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on Yakuza 0.
2017 was a great year!

Looking back 2017 was pretty fun, despite not that I really got into anything modern.  Still it was a blast.  Grats on the PS2 compatible PS3.  Just out of curiosity, what PS2 titles do you tend to play on that system?

@Addicted: I am psyched to play Nier and Yakuza 0 as soon my schedule and motivation permit!

@bombatomba: Honestly, haven't played too much PS2 on the "new" PS3 just yet. I played sooooo much PS2 after doing Addicted's mod a few months back. I played Yakuza Dead Souls on this new machine, and just may be playing our February playthrough game on it. Dun dun DUNNNNNNNNN!
