So, when I first got hit with my nostalgia, eBay is where I looked. It was easy, convenient, and with a lot of reasonable buy it now prices, I was able to acquire the titles I wanted pretty quickly, and at reasonable prices.
I assumed that eveyrone that was collecting retro video games did this, but as I started to read more about the culture I found that eBay is sort of frowned upon by the "true collector".
I don't consider myself anything, except someone who loves video games old and new, and I get them any way I can. I'm not going to stop going to eBay for some games, but I am going to try to get them from flea markets and yard sales first.
Now that I've had a taste of a large flea market, I am definitely much happier with what I got for the money I spent.
At any rate, if you are eBaying exclusively to get your games, I definitely suggest finding a large flea market and keeping your eyes peeled for yard sales that may have video games the prices are MUCH better.

I actually stopped going to eBay to grab games after hitting the weekend garage sales, where I'd occasionally grab tons of old-schoo-- errrr, I mean retro stuff at pretty good prices. With endless suburbs around me, combined with living in the heart of the North American tech and video game industry, every Saturday morning promises a brimming-over treasure trove of swag.
I also frequent several thrift stores, but these don't yield the deals quite like they used to. Never the less, I still find some good stuff from time to time.

I only go to ebay for systems and accessories. I'll only go to ebay for games if I really can't find them at any of the game stores near me.

I only use Ebay if I'm really craving a specific item and its a semi-rare item. I used to buy bigger lots of games years ago or system starter bundles, but the prices have gotten too ridiculous (both the cost of the items and shipping).
Plus when you find a random awesome game locally it just feels "right".

I've never purchased a game on eBay. I've made some purchases from shopgoodwill.com, but even that site seems to be going the way of crazy prices and horrible shipping rates.
I think for me the hunt is the best part of collecting. I like to make the rounds to the flea market, and game shops. It's great to get to know the folks at the shops and stalls, and even make some friends. I love it when I make an unexpected find. I wish you good luck at the hunt!

I enjoy going to the flea market. I like finding stuff for cheap, and it gives me something to wake up for. I've also met some really cool people going to flea markets. I occasionally buy things off ebay when they're cheap and I really want a certain game, but otherwise, I'd rather wait to find them at the flea market.

I would have to agree with everyone who has commented so far. The prices are MUCH better at the flea market, garage sales, yard sales, etc.
I also agree that reserving eBay for things you just can't seem to find any other way is definitely the way to go. I would recommend to anyone starting out collecting to go to these places to start as opposed to eBay.
Anyway thanks for the good wishes, and I wish you all the best in the hunt as well!

Unfortunately, Ebay is the only feasible thing in my area. No retro game stores, and few really good flea markets. Finding stuff around here is rare at best.
