Today, I got my first Japanese Mega CD game to add to my Mega CD collection. Now reaching 20 games! I rarely buy Japanese games, who could blame me. Some games require you to know the story and that won't help if you don't understand the story, so I only get simple Japanese games if I have the chance. However, this game I had to get mainly for the purpose of a collector. Continue reading and I'll tell you what happened. I was doing a general search on Ebay, and when I looked at the US page of auctions that are ending soonest and this game caught my eye. It came with everything (including Spine Card) and looked in great quality. It had 1 bid and was currently at $12 with two hours left on the clock. In order to avoid kicking myself, I thought I must bid on this game. The only problem was, I go to a Youth Group that goes on while the auction would end. So I put I high risky bid on just before I left. I was actually looking at my watch up until the time it would end. I went back and to my amazement, I won! After contacting the seller and finding out about postage, I got the game a week later. So what was the game? Just look at the picture: If you don't understand what this game is and what's so special about it? This game is Shadowrun, an RPG based on a Pen-and-Paper RPG (can anyone who knows the concept of that explain it on the comments?) of the same name which is a very superior version of the Mega Drive and SNES game of the same name. Why is it so special and rare to make it a collectors must? Well, this game was released in February 23rd 1996, making it the last ever Mega CD game to be officially released. With this in mind, it is very hard to find and apparently goes for very high (while I got it for $26 or 17.28 GBP ). So for my first Japanese game to add to my collection, I believe I was very lucky. Amount paid: 17.28 Total paid: 256.51

Congrats on the import JP games can be pretty cool.
They can be pretty tough to find with the spinecards it seems too. I still need to get a PSX copy of MKII with spinecard....

@Izret101:I never even knew Playstation games had spine cards, I thougth they were more of a Sega Mega CD thing
|
Very nice pick up! I just have one question: what exactly is a spine card, and where does it go on the game? I understand it is that little piece of paper on the bottom left, but where exactly does it go on the game? Does it stick to the spine? Sorry for my ignorance...
|
The spine card does indeed go over the spine. JP CD based games used the same boxes as US PC games(or so it seems that way based on what i own) so the spinecard was used to mask the black plsatic spine and carrythe cover art all the way around.
It also included various information like UPC, Part number, price, copyright info, and some other stuff. I'm by no means the most knowledgeable person on the site for imports so maybe someone else can step in and fill in any gaps i may have left or info i got wrong.

Awesome, I got my first Japanese games recently as well.

@logical123:The Spine Card is a small "Bi-folded" piece of card that wraps around the spine of a game and is kept in place by the plastic wrap when sealed. These were used to make it easier for a customer to pick a game to read the card on the spine than the small piece of text on the box's actual spine.
These were usually common with Japanese games. However, European Mega CD games did have them because they had the same box design. Usually, games are more expensive with there spine card because it is packaging that is thrown in the bin when the game is opened, or when it is "dead stock" and store employees had to open the games.
No prob, we are here to learn as well as be amazed!

That's a good price there. Nice find.
Also: I didn't understand all this business about the spine cards either. It's a good day when you learn something new and interesting.

@gamepopper101: Thanks so much for the explanation! As they say, the more you know, the more you know!

It does go for very high... I paid $100 for my copy >_>
