The Adventure of the Mega CD collectorThe Adventure of the Mega CD collector

Hey everyone! It's another non-Mega CD related blog post. As I'm posting this, I went to my Local Car Boot Sale for the first time, for the sole purpose of adding stuff to my game collection. Continue reading to see how I got on!

The good thing about my local car boot is that a) It's not far from my house b) It happens every week and c) It's Jam Packed at 8:30am! The main problem is that it's difficult to find the games you want to buy. I didn't really expect Mega CD games, but I was expecting at least Gameboy, Mega Drive and Master System games, since they are the popular retro systems in Britain. However, it took me to the third row of pitches (the british name for a stall or table or whatever you call them at Flea Markets) to find someone selling Mega Drive and Gameboy games. Another thing is that I'm bad at haggling, if not I don't know how to, so if someone gives a price that I'm not interested, I just walk away and see what other people might sell.

However, if you are a Playstation collector and you live in the Midlands area you should come since I could count the amount of pitches selling good sizes of PS games with three or four hands if I had that many.

Despite that problem, I had a good time and got some good finds. It was also good for my sister because she is a Beanie Baby collector.
and yes she may kill me if she found out this picture is on the internet, but so what? So I'm not the only collector in the family, my dad collects music CDs...sort of. And my Mum collects musical figurines. Anyway we are getting off subject, what did I find.

First Game Find

I bought this from a guy who I guess is a collector himself, since he had almost every common retro game as well as a few modern ones. NES, Xbox, Mega Drive, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS and he even had two Colecovisions for sale! But I wanted some Mega Drive and Gameboy games and these for were what I wanted, he was offering 13 (GBP) but somehow he dropped the price to 10. The Gameboy Games are CIB and AfterBurner II is, but Zool is missing the manual.

CIB Gameboy Color
You may have one but to me, I've never seen a complete Gameboy Color in person anywhere since when I was 6 at Christmas. This was being sold for 5 which I just immediately said yes too because IT IS CIB! Not only that, but it's in great condition and comes with Tetris!

Megadrive find
I found this later in the day, this couple had 5 games along with a Megadrive II with four controllers I think for sale. The games were 1 each but I wasn't really interested in the two sports games they offered, so I got these three. The two cart only games are in great quality, the boxed game has some broken pieces on the inside but it isn't a bother to me.

Two Megadrive Tips video

I had no idea these things existed, mainly because I thought back in the day this was more of a thing TV shows did, not magazine companies releasing VHS tapes. The Mean Machines Sega one is really cool and well edited while the Sega Power one is just some guys talking about how to beat the game. There was a label saying these videos were 50p each but I ended up paying 50p for both! The Sega Power one has a dent though and the Mean Machines Sega one goes black and blurry with barely any sound for 10 minutes, 55 minutes into the video. Still I like them! Gives you that nostalgic feel!

Sega Master System Controller
I went back to the guy who I bought my first find from and found two Master system controllers. I needed one so I picked the best one and asked for a price, he was wanting to sell the controllers with the Master System II for 5, but he said I can buy the controller separate for 2. Thinking about it, how come the Master System II is easier to find then the Master System I? I think the first model is way better looking, not to forget that it has more features (like a card slot).

So in all, I spent 19.50 on 2 VHS tapes, 5 Megadrive games, 3 Gameboy games, 1 CIB Gameboy Color and a controller.

Oh! By the way, I'm selling some Gameboy Games I don't want, so if you want to see what I have and place a bid, go down to the link:

Not bad for your first time Smiley.

I would say that you should hit that place every week, you'll eventually find something really nice!

Yeah, the secret to good hunting is 'be regular'. It's no use turning up once or twice and expecting to find the good stuff. You might get lucky like that occasionally, but you've got to keep at it.
