Actually, Crabby, there is a point where Joust's difficulty stops ramping up. It's somewhere in the 50s, I believe, much like Robotron.

@Shadow Kisuragi: Like I mentioned a while ago, I'm not looking to "complete" these games 100%. In the arcade style games like these I'm just trying experience all the different aspects they have to offer.

Nice! I realized as I was reading this that I never played Joust in single player mode. I played quite a bit two player (a week in the late 80's in sweaty Gretna, LA) but I don't think I've ever played the CPU only.
I personally call an arcade-style game in the vein of Joust "finished" when it gets so hard that I loose my temper. At that point I usually stand up, toss the controller straight up into the air(if it is a NES game), and exclaim, "I'm done!"
