I really enjoyed reading through Tan's Top 50 list even though we have completely different gaming tastes. It was nice to see a large variety of systems and games that rarely show up on the stereotypical top games list, and I guess it has inspired me to make my own top games list. So here it is:

Nice list! I actually own at least a quarter of them myself. Of that quarter, some of them would even make my top 100 list.
Just curious though, no love for pre-NES games?
|
Right back at ya!! I loved what you said about Super Mario Bros. 2 versus 3 because I like that one a thousand times better.
Unfortanutely Im not a big pre-NES gamer. We owned an Atari when I was young so I played some games like Donkey Kong, Iceburg, Mrs. Pac-man, etc., but I wouldnt call myself a gamer until I saw my cousin playing Mega Man 2. That was my first "real" taste of gaming and I find the games before that can't hold my attention.
There are most likely at least a few games that I would really love from the pre-NES era, but unfortunately I've never played any yet. If I ever come across a good deal on any older systems while im garage saling or something I'll pick them up and give them a try. Im not against pre-NES gaming, I've just had a very short experience with them a very long time ago.

Final Fantasy 9 is fantastic.
|
@Sirgin:FF X is the best in the series and dont forget it! lol
|
The only FFies I like less than X is X-2, XI and XII
|
@Link41:No way, lol! FF9 is so much better.
|
Wow, all those Castlevanias and no Dawn of Sorrow/Aria of Sorrow. That's weird, have you played them? Pretty cool list though.
Also, it's weird to see the entire Xenosaga series on there, FFIX, and Lunar 2 but pretty much no other JRPGs. Are you a fan of the genre or are those exceptions? I mean they are great games but I can think of plenty others worthy of top 100.
|
Sorry for the double post...
@Link41: Yes! Easily in my top 10 games of all time. Funny though, the only FFs I haven't played are 7, 8, and 9 though. I was deprived of a PS I just need them to be put on the PSP like they did with Tactics and VP.

@Shimra: I'm glad Sqaure Enix is taking time and remaking the franchise in 3D on the Nintendo DS,I'm re-discovering just how great the originals were even now, complete with a better story and voice overs:P @Sirgin: and no my dear friend that game was crap compared to VII and VIII,so X clearly smokes that piece of crap:P

It seems to me if everyone has their own opinions on the top games of all time, they should all blog their own lists for us to read over.
|
@Shimra:
I own Dawn of Sorrow and have played Aria, for some reason they just didnt resonate with me. They are both solid games, but the other titles I listed from the series somehow hold a special place for me that those ones do not. One of the things I know for sure that I didnt like as much about them was the music. I'm probably in the minority here, but if I had to pick just one Casltevania to play for the rest of my life it would be Lament of Innocence. I feel like that title has THE best music and story of them all. It has some small gameplay issues, but not enough to wreck the experience for me.
As for JRPGs I'm just not overly familiar with them. They have always been expensive, hard to come by and time consuming. Basically the ones i've listed above are ones I've taken the time to appreciate and enjoy. I've got no doubt that there are tons of others that would appeal to me and I do plan to search them out and eventually clear my time table and give them a chance.
Lunar 2 and FFIX are basically the first JRPGs that I played so they hold a special place on my top 100 list and will likely be there forever. Xenogears/saga on the otherhand I feel did a better job of "earning" its spot (not that Lunar/FFIX didnt) because I was hooked on the story and never once felt like I had to do a grindfest to progress it. It flowed so nicely and had such an interesting story.
